The old "bait and switch" at its finest.

Jul 19, 2021, 1:17 PM

I had been putting off getting a set of new tires for my son's Honda Accord, but today decided to schedule it. I went out to the "Mr. Tire Auto Center" website, selected the Orangeburg, SC location, and got tire pricing on 3 different brands. I set up an appointment online, and called in and spoke to a real person, decided on BF Goodrich Advantage T/A tires, price per tire $128.99. This decision was because that particular one was the only one of my 3 initial choices they had "in stock".

Now, I also wanted an alignment done, which I knew would be extra.

I was handed an "estimated bill" totalling over $1004.00! First thing I noticed was the tire price was $151.99 each, instead of the $128.99 "local" website price. Then, a $75 road hazard warranty, $120 "TPMS inspection fee", $125 alignment (double what I last paid for one). And on and on. They tried to hand me some song and dance about the model of BF Goodrich Advantage T/A being a different rating than the one on the website for $128.99, and of course the more expensive one is the only one they had.

The only reason I darkened their door to begin with was that the people I normally deal with were on a two week vacation. But, it didn't hurt my feelings at all to tell Mr. Tire to just cancel the whole thing, and I would gladly wait until their competition was once again open.

And these people are supposedly "discount" tire outlets. What a scam they have going. Buyer Beware!

Try Nuttall Tire in Columbia. I've found them to be fair and they do good work. Maybe not the cheapest, but there's no BS and I've always been satisfied with them.

Yes, Nuttall is a good honest company. And, more times than not, the owner, Stephen, is sporting a snappy Clemson shirt!

If you're replacing the tires...

Jul 19, 2021, 1:30 PM

just replace the TPMS sensors as well especially if it has been a while since the tires were last replaced.

Good way to find someone or a business in his area to help. If it doesn’t do anything for you……get out and move to the next thread. No harm/no foul. Go tigers!

It’s the Amphitheater. Close enough.

Many folks would’ve posted on the Football Board, so no complaints here.

You do inflate tires like a football so I wonder if Tom Brady does his own tire pressure checks?

They will give you a survey about your experience, tell them how bad it was and give all 0's and the manager will call you and give you 2 free tires-- their bonuses are based of NPS surveys.

Costco all the way. Found some of the better deals there for sure.

Dumb not to have asked for a full estimate b4-hand...***

This WAS beforehand. I told them to cancel the transaction

Jul 19, 2021, 5:46 PM

when I saw that total. This is the first time I have ever seen a "TPMS service fee", and it was over $100? They "padded" their way right out of a sale, or any future business.

I hate it when they try to play games with good customers thinking we won’t say anything about it.

Good for you on waiting, can’t blame you one bit.

Walmart is an option though they are totally incompetent and generally never done in less than three hours.

Our area lacks a good honest tire store. Fierstone forgot to put our spare back in the trunk, never apologized. NTB is famous for selling you repairs for parts that don't need replaced. A popular independent dealer cracked our rim and never said a word. My local mechanic who is great, said "I can't recommend anyone and wouldn't trust any of them." Sad really.

Good Luck !!
