#6 player picks Mizzu

Oct 20, 2021, 9:45 AM

Another example of a new age in football. The #6 player in the country picked Missouri over Alabama and Georgia. Kids want to play and the exodus because the portal will continue.

Kids want to play...

Oct 20, 2021, 9:58 AM

and that has always been the case well before the transfer portal.

There are currently over 1,000 kids in the transfer portal. These are kids who walked away from full scholarships on the hope of getting an offer to play elsewhere.

I think there are basically two reasons for the sudden surge in the transfer portal. One is because of all the "super seniors" who were able to return for another year of eligibility following the COVID-impacted 2020 season. This issue will eventually resolve itself. The other reason is these kids can now transfer and play immediately without having to sit out a year.

If they transfer in the middle of the season can they play that season or do they have to wait until next year? Not being sarcastic, just trying to understand.

You can’t transfer mid-term. Academics, not athletics. You must be enrolled to participate.

From purely an academic standpoint...

most schools don't transfers in the middle of a semester. On that basis alone, these kids would have to wait until January at the earliest before enrolling elsewhere.

So if a kid enters the transfer portal right now he can’t actually transfer until January but he will be eligible to play next fall and in the past he would have had to sit out a year until the following fall? And a kid that transfers over the summer can play right away that fall like Kendrick did.

Again just trying to understand the changes in the transfer rules. I keep reading posts that say they are eligible to play immediately and that’s what confused me.

Your understanding is correct.

Here’s the unintended consequence and these young people really need good counsel. What percentage are giving up the bird in the hand so to speak? Will never play again and lose the scholarship they have. Probably gonna be pretty high.

Its NIL. What used to be shady back room bagman deals to buy players off the portal is now perfectly within the rules and above board as long as the money is laundered through any company claiming to use the kid's likeness for advertising. That can pretty much be $500,000 for one poster in a gas station bathroom. This is NFL free agency without salary caps.

What does that have to do with this recruit though? It's the same as it's always been. Sometimes they pick random schools.
