Re: Kelly Bryant + Feaster + The Option = Murder

While I agree with this analysis, I have problems with this single statement:
"The ability to successfully run the option will open up Kelly Bryant’s throwing ability and he will also have a very capable receiver in the backfield beside him in Feaster."
Yes - that statement is TRUE. Very true. It also talks about the elephant in the room - KB's lack of throwing ability. If his passing was not an issue, we would not have to work so hard to make it easier for him. Yes - it is a plan, but a weak one IMO.
If we can just work on the DIVE play, then we can be GT on steroids. Paul Johnson would be proud of us, but would no longer be scared of us.

Are we sure after 3 college off season Bryant hasn't matured as a passer; at least be serviceable enough in the short/intermediate passing game, with a bomb here or there to keep defenses more honest and open up running lanes?
I have faith in Streeter, our coaches and the QB Guru Bryant has worked with to say; yes, he has progressed without seeing first-hand.
Still, our coaches may want our offense to have a different identity, with all our talent at WR and use Bryant as a situational QB/back-up.

Since we've really only seen KB play during garbage time I'm not surprised that he hasn't thrown more.
Garbage Time = Run the clock out and let's get off the field.
Certainly don't want to throw an INT when the team is "On a high" from dominating the other team. Remember 2015 vs the coots? "Their best team in 35 years only beat us by 5 points" was proclaimed by every coot fan with an IQ slightly above room temperature. We all know it was a load of garbage, but the coots hung their tiny little impudence on that fact.
We know that KB has an incredibly quick first step. That alone will freeze many D linemen giving him time to see the holes or hit the TE, SR or RB in stride. Just like DW4, when he started to scramble the D line would either adjust to him or watch for him to flick the ball to an outside resource. Either way they were going to get burnt.
So let's keep up the fabricated mindset that KB can't throw the ball. Then when defenses get burned crispy by his sudden ability to throw the ball perhaps the naysayers can re-review their impetuous comments.

Garbage time is when the game is 99.99% out of reach

for the other team. There was never any garbage time in the 2015 coot game.
I really have no problem at all with the backups coming in and running the regular offense in garbage time. Dabo has done it plenty in the past, it's just that Schuessler got most of those reps the past two years. I think we had more opportunities to get Bryant some passing attempts, but the staff largely chose not to do it for whatever reason.

No, not in that game. The correlation was how a late score can silence or at least tamp down a euphoric win.

That sounds terrible. I want to utilize our great WR's...

and keep them all fully involved and happy. We didn't become WRU to run the option very often.

When was Feaster stated

the starter?
KB throwing ability will be challenged early and often as the season progresses. Our O will have to be balanced, or the really good teams will expose him.
We'll see when live bullets start flying, esp. against good teams, on the road.

Opposing defensive coordinators are smart. They will notice how Bryant passes the ball. If he can't effectively, opposing defenses will load the box and make us throw the ball.

I don't disagree with you on this standpoint, but I have enough confidence in KB's arm if the box is loaded and all our 4/5* receivers are in man to man coverage. I mean I don't think there is any way that he would be fighting for QB1 spot if he couldn't. Basically, that is the beauty of it. Defenses have to load the box on him or he will slice you up. My biggest thing is I hope he has developed enough to be able to read the defenses to know when to audible and when not to. IE: Auburn w/ Newton or Marshall. Worked pretty well for them. Just my 2 cents worth. Go Tigers!!
