Kelce Goat TE?

Jan 29, 2023, 8:44 PM

Is this guy one of the best ever? No one can guard him and he is seemingly always open even when the defense knows he is the primary target.

I'd put Gronk and Tony Gonzalez over him

Jan 29, 2023, 8:53 PM

He's about on par with Shannon Sharpe, imo

Gronk and Gonzalez are both more classic tight ends-

clunky, kind of slow, not as good of hands. Kelce might not have as good of a career, but definitely pure talent and athleticism, I put Kelce ahead of him. He plays TE like a real wide receiver.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, it's about like comparing McCaffrey and Derrick Henry

Jan 29, 2023, 9:01 PM

they're both RB's, but Henry is by far the better back, but McCaffrey gives you a WR option from the backfield.

Gronk early on his career before the back and knee injuries began to take their toll, his hands and speed were on par with Kelce. Blocking ability far superior to Kelce's like having a 3 OT on the field. Both HOFs, Kelce's stats over the last 7-8 seasons are arguably the best ever for anyone TE-(who can't block)

He is by far the goat imo.

Kittle is pretty darn good too. The TE play on the league these days is really good.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No.

Jan 29, 2023, 9:21 PM

Best at the moment.

Without much additional thought I’m going with Gronk for GOAT.

Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates, then everyone else***

Gates was amazing but even as a Chargers fan I'd say Kelce is the goat. I'm not sure any te has had close to the seasons that he has had.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gates is the all time TD leader for the TE position

Jan 30, 2023, 9:58 AM

Kelce has to play a lot longer to be considered in the same class as those guys.

Kelce has 3 of the top 5 single season yardage records. He has played no where near the number of games as gates but almost has as many career recieving yards. Of course being with Patty has helped tho lol.

All these guys were great for a long time. If Kelce plays this long he will most likely be in the convo. Gronk did not have the longevity to be considered the GOAT due to injuries.

Huh?? Reggie White’s last season was 2000 and Gronk’s first was 2010?? Reggie passed in 2004.

Gronk is the better all around player, Travis is probably

the better receiver

Davis Allen can be that good and is probably already a better blocker...Allen just needs a little coaching and he can be the goat...may have better hands!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very good - but no. Recency bias.

Jan 30, 2023, 7:20 AM

Maybe the best today.
Many to choose from, game has changed.
Kellen Williams comes to mind. Gronk and others listed.
I don’t like rankings of all time. Pro sports evolve. Best of era is how I think of some players.

Many of the Old Timers here will remember Dave Casper

Jan 30, 2023, 11:49 AM

The Oakland Raiders TE of the 1970’s into the early 1980’s. He could do it all!!!!

Dallas Cowboys had a couple of great tight ends years ago...Two of the best to ever play...why can't anyone remember their names...saw one at the golf course 15 years ago and he had lost 20 pounds and looked slim compared to when he played...had Robert Newhouse with him and Newhouse outweighed him by 50 pounds! Cowboys hated for either of them to retire!
