I don't believe anyone is born a homosexual. Zero proff of it!
This gay thing fires you up. Got something to tell us?
Look....I understand this subject is dear to your heart. Look soccer, if you're gay so be it. But don't tell this forum you were born that way. Cause that in itself is stupid.
Saying someone is born that is stupid......just like soccer.
Imo of course

Wow, tough language there. So anyone who disagrees with your assesment is "ignorant and stupid"? Here are some facts: 1. Many sets of identical twins have both a hetrosexual and homosexual identifier. In fact, in Australian case studies only 11% of the co-twins had same-sex attraction. It was even less (7.7%) in the US case study. 2. Identical twins share identical DNA and share equal pre-natal conditions, therefore it is not a stretch to discount genetics as the primary cause.
And FYI, as late as 1973 homosexuality was classified in the US as mental illness (National Institute of Mental Health).
One could make the leap that political correctness may have influenced the change in classification.
While we have free will and choice is part of any action or lifestyle we embrace, the more likely culprit is childhood influence, such as exposure to pornography, sexual abuse, etc... nurture vs. nature

I'm honestly impressed that there are still such eloquent arguments intended to paint the picture that homosexuality is a choice. Speaking of political motivation - I can only imagine the landscape of public opinion at the time when homosexuality was deemed "a mental illness."
I was under the impression that over time, scientific understanding changed. It was near consensus in 1500 A.D. that the world was flat, too. But we learn things, and as we reach new consensus on the nature of being from a scientific standpoint, it becomes increasingly desperate to cling age old "truisms" to avoid what makes us uncomfortable.
Can you link to that study. Also, there's a difference between something being passed down from parents to offspring (genetics) and something being inherent within one's own personality. Stay tuned - science establishes your position as false with more and more consensus as each day passes.
If you think it's the politics motivating the science and not the other way around, you're not paying attention. I think politics is evolving to reflect what's pretty obvious --- there are some kids who are attracted to the same sex at a very early age, all else things equal.

Is this the part where I go to Google Scholar and get refuting published studies that suggest that it is, at least, partially genetic?
I think I'll just stick to my original claim, in that it's not some deviant choice that people consciously make.

You may actually find said other studies quoted and/or referenced.
And I'll stick with MY original claim, that identical DNA/pre-natal condition twins quite often have one heterosexual individual and one SSA, Thus disproving a purely genetic-based causality theory.

When you say being gay is a choice you are saying you yourself could make that choice. There's where we differ, there has never been a time in my life I could have chosen to be gay. Further, even if they did choose, I doubt most gays could choose to change to hetero so what's the diff whether it was a choice or not.

To claim it is genetic or a choice are equally ignorant
Apr 9, 2014, 3:36 PM

In that they are opinionated. I side with no particular argument because there has been no substantial, empirical evidence supporting one side or the other. The verdict is still out so to claim your knowledge is superior is more foolish than the person who claims to have no knowledge on the matter. Regardless, I truly feel my generation has gotten past the "stigma" of homosexuality and myself, along with others, are more than ready to accept homosexuality as a commonality if the media will allow for it.

Why is it out of consideration to think that people don't choose to identify with alternative/deviant lifestyles? A person can grow up being told that drugs are bad for you and will destroy your life. However, when certain people try drugs they quickly find out that they find great joy in them and decide to assume the life of a drug abuser. Regardless of conditions such as mother and father abusing drugs in the household, this person still had the capacity to decide one way or the other. Now, I understand this is not the best example since homosexuality can enhance the quality of ones life in the long run while drugs is certain to decrease quality of life in the long run, but the principle remains the same: a lifestyle predicated off of joy/satisfaction rather than conformity or morality. Many claim "why would a person choose this lifestyle considering all of the criticism that goes along with it?" Easy. People often make decisions that maximize happiness/satisfaction regardless of consequences (drug abuse, homosexuality, sex change operations, skipping work or school, etc.). Just to be clear, I am not siding with one argument or the other, and my examples are only connected through principle of "decisions", but my point is I'm not sure how some of you claim to be certain one way or the other. Either way we should not harbor anger because regardless of how a person came to identify as a homosexual this makes them no more or no less than other sexual lifestyles.

the proper location? Are you using the mobile version of the site?
Second, using the drug analogy is a horrible one for many reasons. One of which being that drugs physically alter your brain circuitry to make you crave them more, it's called addition. Another is I do not have a craving whatsoever to try homosexuality, I am physically and emotionally not attracted to the same-sex. I cannot magically flip a switch to become attracted to men.

So thanks for being petty. I can tell that's your MO from forming lists to saving peoples posts for years at a time so you can win the internet. Second, maybe you don't like men because it doesn't bring you the satisfaction that liking women does. You're right, it isn't magic. People become gay because something (genetics, environment, choice) makes them want to do it. Speaking of "addition", you do realize having sex rewires your brain as well right? Hard to know if your g@y when you haven't actually had intimacy with that particular sex. Nobody gets an "addition" or fansy for something until they have chosen to engage in it. Whether that's their choice or not is something neither you nor I can confidently claim.

examples of the issue I was explaining and we're trying to fix it so the reply goes the proper spot. So how again am I being petty in asking why your replies are in the wrong spot?
And again you're wrong. Even as a kid, I had no physical or emotional attraction towards the same-sex, so stop trying to compare drugs to homosexuality, because you're wrong in 5 different ways. Sex doesn't re-wire the addiction center of your brain like drugs either, don't try to compare that whenever you're wrong.

"Hard to know if your g@y when you haven't actually had intimacy with that particular sex."
I'm pretty sure an individual knows what they are attracted to and what they aren't attracted to without bringing intimacy into it. It ain't that complicated.
