There's few people who I wholeheartedly associate Clemson

Dec 7, 2021, 11:12 AM

with, and Bruce was one of them. I remember driving to my very first tailgate in STI to meet him, over 10 years ago. I don't remember what game it was, but I remember meeting so many of you guys, and this dude, with a massive beer cooler full of all these fancy beers. I was still on my Miller Lite kick, so celtic was one of the first to open my eyes to craft brews. Eventually to give me a Trappist Westvleteren 12, one of the best brews I've had to drink.

Not sure there's a guy that's had more of an impact to people on this website in the real world than Bruce. I'm still processing this loss, heart broken, we've lost a great friend. Rest in peace celtic.

Because I'm curious, chime in if you ever met Bruce in person, this man transcended this website.

Kelli & Fireball will fill us in with pertinent information when they can.

tmale dialogue with him.

Super nice guy, never a contrarian. He's one of the few in this community that seemed to be well liked by all. Never kicked up dust with anyone for any reason.

Would loved to have had a tequila with him at his mexican joint.

was the one that even introduced us each other at a Duke game in Durham several years back. Who would've thought that it would take clemsonrulez that would broker our peace, lol.

It's hard to truly put into words how much Bruce did for all of us here in the Lounge.

I met bruce and kelli in lot 10...back then i was still in

Dec 7, 2021, 1:46 PM [ in reply to Never met him in person but did have periodic ]

grad school and the lot behind FLuor (now lot 9) wasn't IPTAY. So we'd pack up, get there early, and secure a spot and power outlet on the loading dock. One day, Kelli invited me over and we met. at some point, not even sure when, i think we combined tailgates. Lot 20 or something, then to STI.

Honestly, once Bruce stopped tailgating, we stopped hanging with the crew there ....but I'd still text or tmail him. He'd always text me if he mentioned me here because he knew i didn't frequent it as much. And before he joined buddybook, even after, I'd send him picture of G and, once we got them, the dogs.

it would sometimes be weeks in betweeen messages, but I never once thought that he may not be around to answer them anymore. The last exchange we had was before the WF game. I was trying to convince him to come out since you (soccerkrzy® would be in town. :-|

Met Celtic and Chick wit a tiger tat at FSU - probably 15 years ago in Tally. Wish there was more time to spend with this group - to meet more of you - and this is a reminder how quickly opportunities can pass to do so.

very sad for this loss

not long after my separation. He helped provide a much needed day in Death Valley for me. Met many times after that, but sadly I think the last time I saw him in person was at the Citadel game in 2013. That was the time he met my daughter also.

First time was at the inaugural VomitFest. Loved the dude from the first time, he just had that laid back coolness to him.

Already posted in RH's thread, but yeah, that sounds on-brand. Just an all around great dude with a great taste for beer and life.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to add where I met him. Can't remember the exact event, but it was when I was a student. Either at a football game or a baseball game, and likely an "official" Tigernet meet-up. We were all TAC regulars then. Either way, a lot of debauchery and laughs were had.

tailgate. Others talk about him checking on people, he walked up the hill to our tailgate to check on me the first game I went to with my broken ankle in 2014. Really appreciated you and Kelli and Bruce coming to our road game tailgate at UVA yrs ago.

Red and I met Bruce in STI

before the 2013 FSU game. I also met MANY others, but it was Bruce who hosted us that day. Red and I both speak of that day very frequently without even mentioning the game. I'm not sure I saw him another time after that day, but as you said, many folks knew him both on TNet and in real life. While I may have given him a ton of #### over the past few years, mostly over his classic twitter thirst traps, I respected the man and his kindness.

Please forgive me, @IneligibleUser

We met Bruce and Kelli at Chicora Alley.

Dec 7, 2021, 11:40 AM

My son was playing football at Greenville High School, and my ex-wife was cracking wise about going to meet "internet friends" at Chicora Alley. We started to get more active in the Lounge and eventually organized what became known as Vomitfest, because it named itself after the first one, lol.

Gradually jbvarnad, tote1, zettner, Tiffany (can't remember her screen name), Fireball, fishingtiger, 19B®, RHTig, Shorty, aerozeptallica, tdrake, soccerkrzy among others were meeting and greeting all around.

Bruce definitely got the ball rolling, and was just chill about everything. I shared some good bourbon with him on more than one occasion, and sometimes we just sat at the bar in Barley's and talked about all sorts of stuff. Just sad to know that he's gone from us.

Re: As I noted in another thread…….

Dec 7, 2021, 12:03 PM

I was new to the lunge - maybe around 2006 timeframe. Mrs. Maddog and I were flying up to NYC for the weekend. After we landed we were walking thru the LaGuardia terminal and passed another couple wearing Clemson gear. We did our obligatory “Go Tigers” and we kept walking. After about thirty paces I stopped and I mentioned to Mrs. Maddog that I thought I knew that guy. I walked back to them and asked, “Excuse me, but are you Celtic and Chick?” I think I scared the sh*t out of them. They were catching a connection to Syracuse for the Tigers game. They must have thought I was some kind of wacko stalker. I introduced myself as Ashburn Maddog and that although I was relatively new to the lunge I wanted to introduce myself. How in the h*ell did I recognize them? Dunno. Maybe lunge pictures of them at tailgates. I actually apologized in a tmail to Bruce later that day for ambushing him out of the blue in the terminal. He wouldn’t hear it. He was gracious and funny and we were friends since then - especially around military holidays and baseball seasons.

He was a calming voice amongst the rest of us chuckleheads. I am going to miss him greatly.

Honestly don't even 'member for sure the first time we met.

Dec 7, 2021, 12:08 PM

I know I saw Bruce and Kelli at BC in 2006, but I probably caught them before that in Clemson, and countless times since. Met JoeG on that same BC trip. He kicked off mine and reflux's near decade of beer nerdism. I also remember trying Westy 12 at the STI tailgate, and Fireball actually mailing me a contraband one across the country a decade or so ago.

celtic was like Lebowski's rug. Really tied the room together.

We'd even do some beer swapping once in a while, back when Mr OSF was brewing.

If ever there was a stand up guy that would help you walk off a drunken stooper and carry your vomit trash bag for you, it was Bruce. I never liked any of the beer he offered me b/c its not my thing, but I never turned one down from him. RIP in peace Celtic <3

Dec 7, 2021, 3:47 PM

Bruce.

He is the only lunger I have met - and of course, he kinda forced it on me - just because that's the way he was - loved meeting and knowing people - so we met (pre-Covid) at the Simpsonville place he liked, I had a sour, I wish I could remember what he had, but we talked for a long time, and he tried to fill me in on other lungers - which I still hope to meet someday.

He finished with his tequila shot, he ordered one for both of us, then he ordered some food to go. I picked up the tab, which he tried to do, but it was the least I could do for him, having used that Sicilian Gravy recipe for a couple of years!

I told him he owed me a beer, and he agreed - but then Covid hit and we never got back together and that sucks.

When my wife broke her kneecap, he constantly sent me messages asking about her and offering his advice as he went thru this not long ago.

His last mail - "checking in on Mama G - How's the pain? Is she able to move around much?

Wishing the best for her!

Bruce"

I am still in shock, still sad and will remain this way for a while.

Sorry guys, this changes the lunge forever for me. It will never be the same.
