Honest question: Why did Spencer Rattler lose his job?

Other earlier threads have pointed out just how statistically effective he was at Oklahoma as the starter.
It’s hard to ignore his stats.
But, he was benched for some reason.
Why?
I’d really like to know the answer, because it may provide some indication as to how well or how poorly he might be expected to perform as a gamecock.

He had some really bad turnovers. He had a 11/5 TD to interception ratio last year, in a dominate offense.
Also, probably didn't hurt that he had a superstar backup.

Sure Kelly B was effective, but Trevor was still a ways ahead in terms of talent. Dabo couldn't wait any longer than he did to pull the trigger on the QB change.
Caleb Williams was way ahead of Rattler and the Lincoln Riley couldn't be patient anymore.

Dabo will play the obviously less talented but more experienced player at the QB position. But only for a few games to transition the team.

Rattler got benched the year before Williams got there too in the RRSO. I think he’s a poor man’s Chad Kelly (was gonna say Willy Korn but his failures were also in part due to injury) type, tons of talent just can’t put it together due to a variety of reasons we may or may not know: personality, decision making, and beyond.

If I remember correctly he was struggling in the game against Texas. OU decided to put Williams in for a series and I believe he had a long TD run on his very first series. They continue to play him, they continued to score, came back and won the game and from that point Rattler never regained the starting job. I believe Williams was named the starter moving forward after the Texas game.

since he was the apparent obvious starter for this year?
- Liked Riley that much? When he entered the portal, he didn't immediately head to USC.
- NIL deals? Did he get a good deal or multiple deals?
- Lots of attractive young women in LA? I'm sure there are lots in Oklahoma too.
- Not sure about Brent? BV hired a good OC from Mississippi State and Riley was still putting together his staff when Williams committed.
- Maybe a combination of factors.

I imagine it's all of the above. But the main factor is that he wanted to stay with Lincoln Reily. One thing Reily does well is QB's.

Yeah? Like who? Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray were top QBs before Lincoln Riley arrived. Who did he develop after those two left?
Stop watching ESPN, please. They lie about everything and don't know what they are talking about 90% of the time. Riley inherited a top program at OU and did nothing to make it better and the defense probably got worse.

He was ineffective at the time. Figured they brought the back up in to change things up and the back up never gave the job back.

The ‘give up and quit’ virus seems to be particularly virulent in college sports today.
As it turned out, he would have probably gotten his starting spot back this season.

Yea in hindsight I figure he wishes he would have stayed because I believe he would rather be starting for Okie over SC. At least one would think most folks would. Kids these days they are hard to figure out though.

I went to the OU/Texas game this past season because we had a bye. Rattler wasn't terrible, but he was very ineffective. OU scored one touchdown with him and was down 28-7 when he was pulled. After Williams came in, OU scored 48 points and won the game. They would have lost if Rattler stayed in.

Spencer rattler is not as good as he is made out to be. At OK he was playing in conference that doesn't really have good defenses historically. The only reason he is at Carolina now is because of Beamer. We will see how he plays against better defenses this year.

I saw video on him a while back, and it seems his stats were padded against lesser teams. He never played well when it counted and the fans lost faith in him as I recall. Who knows he might have grown up.....

Poor performance was the key. Rumors had it that he was a real ####### to teammates and coaches and is an extremely arrogant kid. Should fit right in at the State Capitol.
