86 yr old widow I know was getting emails saying she was in trouble with the FBI because a car that had been titled in her name had been involved in a crime. They could clear it up if she bought thousands of dollars of gift cards and gave them the info to redeem, don't tell anybody, etc, etc. I've heard all that before, except the email part. Not sure how they create the legitimacy and urgency that way. I've usually heard this scam done by burner phones.

She had a few large transactions in and out of her Truist checking account, until they refused to do a $10,000 withdrawal for her. Total lost, over $23,000.

Special place in hell for people that prey on old widow ladies like that.

especially older people. I guess your bull #### detector fades over time.

I hung up on an indian sounding dude who needed to confirm some information about the mortgage I'm getting through another company.

Called the mortgage company and they confirmed that the dude really is from the company they use.
