Notto be nit-picky but there are only 6 bourbons on this list. All have been on my bar at one time or the other. My favorite from this would be the KC.

Love your avatar. I still have that SI cover framed in the den.

I do not agree with Jonah's list however, I liked the 'Different Types of Whiskey' list at the bottom.

WT 101.....I have been telling folks for years......

Apr 21, 2022, 3:32 PM

The best tasting bourbon there is, and I've tried many. People can talk about all these high dollar, single barrel, etc. names.....the trendy stuff. WT 101 is the real deal.

It's fantastic. Paid $25 at my local store last week.

For my fellow scotch lovers

I can vouch for Balvenie Doublewood. It’s very smooth.

Just curious, are Bourbon drinkers, and Rye Whiskey drinkers

Apr 21, 2022, 8:46 PM

Reading this as I just finished my last day doing the bourbon trail, sitting in my hotel watching the women play softball on tv, dreading my drive back to the beautiful Lowcountry.Big fan of Weller!

How was the bourbon trail? I’ve heard it’s fun.

That’s a beautiful area of the country. The horse farms are incredible.

I'm a Woodford Reserve fan in an old-fashioned. Also like George Dickel, Wild Turkey, Four Roses, Weller, Whistle Pig Homestock ... lots of good ones. Not personally big on Scotch or Irish whiskey. But had a good experience drinking Japanese whiskey with off-duty pilots in Tokyo 50's bar.

Will have to try bourbon trail. Any recommendations? Timing? Boarding? Restaurants?

Definitely get reservations if you want a tour or tasting, especially at Buffalo trace, place is packed, mostly people try to get their mystery bottle of the day. Woodford reserve , four roses, makers mark , Buffalo trace and Heaven hill for sure, we stopped at others just to look around, but still worth the time, pretty cool places to see.

I definitely agree with the reservation part if you want the tour and tasting, which really make the visit worthwhile in my opinion.

We've done about 6 or 7, all in conjunction with football games at Louisville. They've all been in or around Louisville or Bardstown. Never had a bad experience at any.

Bardstown is a neat little town with lots of distilleries in the area, AirBnB places to stay and bourbon bars. Highly recommend it as a base for part of a tour.

Then you've got Louisville proper, where I'd recommend Stitzel Weller and Old Forrester. Stitzel Weller is no longer a commercial distillery but they have aging warehouses and probably the best tasting I've been to. Old Forrester is not my favorite bourbon, but the technical aspects of the tour were probably the best I've seen.

Next time we go we'll hit the Frankfort area, which has Buffalo Trace (big fan) and Woodford among others. If you've got the time, I'd say one night each in Louisville, Bardstown and Frankfort would make for an excellent itinerary with plenty of distilleries to choose from.

Rye has made a big come back in recent years and many of the bourbon distilleries make it now too. Most of the tastings you go to now will have rye included. I generally prefer bourbon but rye is good for a change of pace. So yes, most bourbon & rye drinkers get along! If there's friction, you'll usually find it between bourbon and scotch people in my experience.

A perfect example of this is WT101 and WT101 rye. Both fantastic pours for the money.

My bourbon, my cigars, and my kids... They are all a little different, but I love them all the same.
