Just curious, how many on here have fallen prey to the old

"Bait and Switch" routine in the last couple years, since the Pandemic came along and became a conveniently used excuse for not having products on shelves?
It seems from my experiences ongoing at Lowe's, and a quick check of the same thing happening at Home Depot, that these appliance sales are ALL Bait and Switch, since they don't have any of the sale models in stock.
Not only will they try to steer you away from the BRAND you want, because they don't have it, they will try to steer you away even from the SIZE refrigerator you want, again, because they don't have it in stock.
They will get you into the store with a good sale price on a "normal" single fridge with the freezer on top, but will steer your towards having to buy a side by side if you want to get one by the next millenium.
It ought to be illegal to put an item on sale that you knowingly don't have in stock.

Thing is the sales flyers are done many months in advance and they don't hold the inventory for the sale. If they can sell it for the regular price prior they will.

I went through this when buying my dishwasher. The models that were the dimensions I needed were always on back order or some nonsense. Lowes put a price on a Bosch model that was part of a kitchen display. I measured it and it was exactly what i needed. Cue the salesman telling me i cant buy it because it is part of a display. I finally made it up to the top manager on duty asking why I couldnt purchase something with a price tag on it. I ended up winning out but they wouldnt install it. Note this was a few years ago before covid.

Our refrigerator went on the blink 36 hours before we were headed out of town for 2 weeks. We laid in bed looking at big box websites to see what was available. Many items were 1-2 months out. Then we remembered the local family owned appliance store who outfitted our new house 25 years ago. We checked their up to date website, found what we wanted, and I called them the next morning. They had it and I explained that we were leaving early the next morning and needed it today. Bought it on the phone and they delivered the same day. Price was competitive, too. Buy local. BTW company is Phillips Supply, Greenville, SC. At our beach house we also bought local and they matched or beat the big box guys.

about a year ago. Tried for about a month. The sale paper would show up in the mail advertising said birds, but the store would never have them. On about the 4th week, asked the dude stocking the meat counter. He laughed. He said "we haven't had those whole chickens for months". He really didn't have an answer on why they kept advertising them.

I saw a side by side refrigerator in Home Depot Harbison store on sale for
$1800.00. My wife has been wanting one to replace the bottom drawer fridge
that we have. So you are saying they probably don't have it in stock? i hope
not because the one we have is fine and i don't want another one so i will
tell her they don't have them any longer. Thanks 76.
