"Just beat them up." Cervenka remembers lessons taught by Wilkins

Gage Cervenka remembers the lessons taught by Christian Wilkins and he’s only too happy to return the favor to the Tigers’ young defensive line. Just beat them up. Full Story »

Good article. The offensive line seems way ahead of the defense but time will tell. Go Tigers!

Iron sharpens iron

Aug 18, 2019, 8:39 AM

How can the young DL help but improve when practicing against our veteran OL? And hopefully despite the relative lack of age and experience on the defensive side, the talent and youthful energy will further sharpen the veterans.

People who are motivated and want to improve always want to compete against superior (if only slightly superior) competition. I think this is why the “chip on the shoulder” approach has been so effective for us. And on Bama’s side, success and fawning media have let complacency creep in, as evidenced by the litany of excuses we have heard since January. Apparently, they have never heard the parable of the tortoise and the hare.

Great leadership. Get sharper, youngsters, and keep challenging those veterans!

I'm an absolute believer in the adage that Iron sharpens Iron, it doesn't work any other way!!!

Our OL is excellent

Hate those 4 are leaving all at once after this year, but going to enjoy watching them dominate this year.

It is cliche to say, but also true--they do not get enough credit

Hopefully they'll be leaving us with another oculus trophy.

It'll take the sting out.

A lot.

Imagine if they all would have left a year earlier? We would have been in a tough spot.

You're right, we would be in a tough spot, but you have to believe that those young men understand that to play on an NFL offensive line, they will have to be slotted in one of the best groups of players being selected to play in the NFL, and they're not taking it lightly by giving up that last year of college experience and conditioning that will be a must have just for a slight chance to be drafted as an NFL offensive lineman....

Gage says they are good to go ........they must be ready to step up. Thanks Gage and veteran OL for continued leadership on both sides of the ball. That’s where championships are won. Go Tigers

Wilkins’ leadership continues to pay dividends.***

Veteran OL "insist on DL playing UP"! This could be another title of the state of things with our Tigers OL. They all kind of echoed what Gage said. Remember these guys played toe to toe with the best and didn't blink. FFWD - minus Hyatt - same group is now let's call it "educating" the young DL!

Battle tested - Battle hardened - And Proven Good through it all > Super talented but green. By the time the season starts:
1. they will be Battle Hardened(not tested quite yet b/c the lights aren't on).
2. improved and better for it.

BV is still the DC at Clemson and won't allow just any old DL to take the football field. It's not all about the players! The coaches have been working on this depth starting last year!
Our OL and their willingness and eagerness to beat these guys up is part of the self-sustaining Dabo has built. Everybody pass on what was given to you as young players so that they are ready when the time comes.
They will be ready! Thanks Gage, John, Tremayne, Sean, Jackson,Cade, Matt, and on to the younger guys.

Clemson Lead The Nation....

Aug 19, 2019, 10:14 AM

In number of players that played last year . So many of our back-ups got significant playing time against pretty good competition . This is one reason why the "Next Man Up" works for Dabo because the next man up has playing experience .

Pretty soon we'll have to call Dabo...Professor Dabo....Phd in College Football Coaching .
