Jumping in the Transfer Portal
Nov 14, 2021, 5:21 PM

Football players jump into the transfer portal mainly for two reasons. One, they feel that they are not getting the playing time they deserve or two, they've had some disciplinary problem with their current team.
I'm not sure Clemson or Dabo actually wants a player that has discipline problems. Dabo's sign some that just never worked out or stayed at Clemson. So that leaves the players that think they deserve more playing time. These players aren't looking to come to a school where they can be the backup so why would they come to Clemson?
Do we need some more pieces to the puzzle, absolutely. Somebody tell me who's in the portal that will start next year?

I think most enter the Portal to better their situation. Sometimes it works out, other times it doesn’t. They have a very limited time to play college football, so they may just want to go somewhere that is a better fit for them and maybe more opportunity.
As far as who in the portal could come in and start for us next year, no one can say. However, after watching our team play offense this year it’s a little silly to suggest there is no one that could transfer here and start ahead of some of our current players.

Marcus Banks. CB bama. If you need a name of some who could start. He has transfer offers from Oklahoma Kentucky to name a few. About 8 offers. He's a freshman, played special teams this year. Word is he's heading home to somewhere in Texas.
This talk about transfers being bad kids is B.S. The 5 star OL that left the ducks is a Mormon. He heading back home too, to BYU.
If Clemson doesn't change their view about these kids we ll never get a good one.

You ever take a job cause you thought it was a great job only to hate it? Probably made that decision as an adult. These are just kids. They commit to a school and it's not what they thought it would be. They get homesick. Get injured. Yes some are behavioral issues some feel they were wronged. I would hold judgment on these kids unless you know the whole story surrounding them.

We’ll look at what we’ve lost in the portal the last couple of years everyone was being beat out or trouble and we’re not a Mormon school … so what’s your point

I agree with most of what you wrote. Withholding judgement on transfer portal kids is merited until or unless facts become known that reveal 'problems' with the portal 'applicant.'
While not all (and probably not a majority) of Portal transfers are neither bad nor morally deficient, there are several such who appear to be.
Top tier players get booted off their teams (usually the reason for the dismissal is never known unless the kid himself admits to an egregious wrongdoing, or if there is a police report [public record] that reveals the details of his indiscretion). These guys hit the portal.
Other players struggle to keep their grades up (despite the plentiful academic assistance resources to which the players have access). These guys hit the portal.
Sure, many of them are good enough students and not troublemakers, but they don't play as much as they want (or do not foresee getting meaningful time before the end of their college playing days). These guys hit the portal.

I’d take Charlie Manson if he could complete a pass.
To me the portal is no different than high school., except you have a little bit more information on the kid. Maybe Dabo and staff look at the availability in the portal and maybe they don’t. If they don’t they’re stupid. Just because a kid had issues at another school doesn’t mean he will at Clemson. Maybe he just needs the type of guidance Dabo and his staff provide.

Good teams get starters to plug holes every year but typically once the season ends.

You need to work the portal like Bama… you find a guy that’s performing and tell him you’re interested and he should go into the portal.
