attendance at Clemson basketball games. The arena was 77% full but his comments are about the 23% of empty seat. Mind you the game is on a Tuesday night starting at 9:05 and televised on the ACC network. Am I missing something or is this the definition of a glass half empty?

attendance. The original start time on the schedule was listed as 5 pm, which would have been TOO early. Why not a good old 7 pm start, which is what the lion's share were in the middle of the week back when I attended Clemson? Of course, Littlejohn was lit with gas lanterns back then....

I live in Fort Mill/TC area. If I would have went to that game last night I would have needed to take off the next day. I’m normally in bed by 930 on most nights.

I think that was a huge part of it. It's not some fantasy have that our fans have about if you're not a Clemson fan you're against Clemson winning. I've lived through the good and the bad of Clemson sports, and I have seen, and I believe that the majority of sports fans really hate seeing a small school as Clemson in the upper corner of SC to be a consistent winner of the 3 major sports. Fans of the bigger schools feel they should win bc they just have more than a little ole school in SC. For whatever their reasons, they think they deserve it more while forgetting the little guy toughness to be the best, and they hate us bc we are a tough little guy/little school that loves winning as much or more than anyone else. It's simple human behavior

I honestly go to bed around 9-9:30 during the work week. So I don't have a clue of what the basketball team is doing on those 9 o clock games.
77% full is impressive on a Tuesday night. It was also my birthday yesterday so I'm sure the other 23% were just out celebrating me.

we should all be ashamed.
Be better turd fans. Be better.
I personally will spend the rest of the day thinking about how disappointed JK is. I'm so glad JK shared that with us.
Because whether or not JK is disappointed should be the the most important thing to TNetters.

of about 12K don't you? Raleigh has how many? Syracuse?
To drive from Greenville you're looking at getting home 12:30-1AM. 9PM games have always been an issue on weeknights in Clemson unless it's against Duke or NC.
No 9PM games the rest of the way. If we continue to play well we'll have sellouts

Our attendance suffers because we don't have the population of other ACC schools is what you're saying. That means we don't have the resources and support that other ACC schools have which is what he's been saying for years.

saying 9PM starts with the biggest population base 45 minutes to an hour away is an obstacle. People have jobs. Greenville work commute is a bear.
Weekend it's a sellout. If we played Wednesday night football games, you think we'd have consistent sellouts?

Do you disagree that having a large population nearby that can fill an arena on a Tuesday is a competitive advantage?

larger crowd, more enthusiasm. Then, if we were playing a ranked opponent instead of a bottom dweller at 9PM on a Tuesday crowd would have been larger if not a sellout. We don't sellout football games against bad teams normally. Maybe close, but not 81K. Recruiting no advantage, as recruits visit on weekends

is mostly dependent on student participation.
It is easiest for them to go to home contents. If you can get them motivated you wont have an issue filling any of these seats.. even for volleyball.

Don't buy tickets unless you expect them to be used

The announced attendance is one thing the actual attendance was even worse. Home court advantage is important in basketball if you buy a ticket I think you have a responsibility to make sure it's being used by someone. There's a lottery for student football tickets is there also one for basketball. It'd be great if the university had some program where you could donate the tickets back to a pool for additional student attendance if you're not gonna make the game. That way the people who have money to burn and buy season tickets just to keep their Saturday seats can make good use of the tickets they don't want.

Wonder what percentage of the student tickets went unused?
I think the bigger problem may be the IPTAY members who buy tickets to "help the team" but then live too far away to make a 9:00 weekday game. Maybe IPTAY could figure out a way to easily give these seats to others if they are not going to be used for each game.

Only youngsters can pretend that Clemson has never had a good basketball program. I am an 83 grad and went to virtually every home game for 4 years. Attended periodically through the 90’s although we lived on the coast. Littlejohn can be the fiery pit from hale for visitors, when full. Although I don’t hesitate to TD the Judge’s more noxious posts, he is correct that this team is playing good basketball and deserves a full house. If they keep playing well, even 9:00 weekday games will have a full house. Winning solves all problems.

In all fairness I read a lot of comments about peoples displeasure with the hill being at 3/4 capacity in recent years as well. Additionally, imagine the disappointment if Death Valley only sold 3/4 its capacity for a league game, even if it was a bad team at a bad time slot people would be upset.

All this about too early or too late is just not the main issue. Too many IPTAY people take ts that used to go to students. We had less than 10,000 students back in the early 70's and we could still get a pretty good crowd during the week. Of course, the seating was more primitive than it is now, but we did not care. Arm rests in the lower level take up space. We used to have bleachers for the more rabid of the students. these days the crowd is there to be entertained, not to participate.
