Johnstone Hall Documentary- Shooting this weekend

Sep 28, 2016, 11:23 AM

Hello,
I am a Junior here at Clemson and an RA in Johnstone Hall. I will be creating a 20min documentary to submit to the 2017 College Emmy Awards, some of you may have seen the post I made back in July about the production. The film looks to capture the "character" and the untold tales of Johnstone. We are looking for stories you would not find in a history book. The first set of interviews for the film are being shot this weekend at the Madren Center. If you or anyone you know would be interested in participating, please send me an email at horacep@g.clemson.edu

Thank you,
and Go Tigers!

I could write a book for you about Johnstone E... but then I'd have to kill you. :)

All I know is all of you Clemson students of today are fortunate to live in the dorms I've seen popping up around campus in recent years. Working air conditioners and insulation used to be reserved only for the Honors dorms in the '90s.

Heck, I lived in Johnstone (E&F) when it still had some shine of a tin can! And it was rather old even then! ;)

I was an RA in the early 60's and Johnston was old then!
Find an ole' timer who will tell you about the guys who brought a young 'lady' into Johnston in a box and hid her from the 'powers that be' for several days I think. I of course was no part of that!

Cool. But your message title is kind of concerning.***

B 9 was called the eye in the sky in my day! I lived there during summer camp with a center on the football team. I saw him twice all summer!

In my day (late '60s), they were the B-9 Bottlebombers

The label was appropriate - and not much fun for the rest of us. You always kept your eyes open if you were in range! Luckily, they were often too pasted to be accurate.

Lived in the johnstone E-2 Zoo my freshman year 1996-97. Holy crap what an experience! Place was a dump but the stories are endless.

is this an R rated type documentary?

Sep 28, 2016, 1:22 PM

Just need to know before sharing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would call it "PG 13"

Sep 28, 2016, 5:52 PM

Thanks for your interest! We want genuine funny stories, a little crude is ok.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

how about "Filming" this weekend.. instead of Shooting?

Sep 28, 2016, 1:22 PM

Some 38 years later,

I'm still trying to find the dood who rode his dirt bike with full face shield down F-3 and up the stairs of F-annex early on a Sunday morning, never to be seen again. Coolest stunt ever!

I lived with Clarence Rose and the golf team on F-3 annex. Have lots of great memories of using those long hallways as a driving range.

I can't tell you what we did to our RA, or they might take away my diploma.

I once worked with a distinguished elder Tiger who used to tell some great stories about Johnstone and the pre-coed Clemson military experience.

I remember him talking about how Johnstone was an architectural marvel of its time - each concrete slab floor was poured on ground level, then jacked up to make room for another slab to be poured underneath it, and so on. He said it was one of two buildings in the world that were constructed in this way…and that the other one had fallen down years ago!

Johnstone?

My time on E-2 was pretty much the equivalent of a 3 year long ####'s Angels rally.
