Thanks if you mean Bob. I was a friend of Bob Raiford. He was a large man, liked to ride his Harley as did I. He had a few years on me, but he was young for his age. He was just one of the guys, not the radio persona. He was very friendly to all and enjoyed being a celebrity. I cannot think of one thing not to like as to him.

back in the day, Dad would always have it playing on the way to school. good old fashioned upstate carolina redneck humor.
Moved to ATL and it was blacked out b/c of the Regular Guys - who ended up being awesome too...then they got axed or something.

Can I be "Dub"?

I remember when Dub died. I swear it was when I was back in middle school, but I can't remember for sure. I'm certain it was when my dad was driving me to school.
He was the "hey big man let me hold a dollar" guy.

John Boy and Billy were local radio on WBCY in Charlotte. The big stations were WBT and Big Ways. They were irreverent and took a huge market share due to the younger crowd. Once John got busted for maryjane and later dropped out. Billy tried to carry on alone, but it was a bust. Billy did most of the work but John was needed as he was the RedNeck "every man".
Competition was fierce, especially from Big Ways. Later even Howard Stern came into the Charlotte market.
John Boy and Billy expanded into North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania. They have certainly changed as to who they were in the early years, but have been sucessful.

I loved listening to them when I was a youngster. Rock 101 out of Anderson carried them.

John Boy used to frequent a bar in South Charlotte near my

house. Went in there one time to pick up a to-go order and he was holding court at the bar, pretty hammered. Homie was dropping N-word jokes like it was his job. Didn't seem like a wise move for such a public figure. That was 15+ years ago. Hard to figure that the guy still hasn't imploded.
