@ the RBC Canadian Open, the morning flight is winding down . . . MyfavOrange® ‘s pick, Shane Lowry had a solid -3 day (T-8th Place) . . . while Ben had a rollercoaster ride . . . 1 eagle, 3 birdies, 3 bogies and a triple bogey ended his round @ +1 (T-60th Place currently).

Jonathan Byrd is just now getting started and you can follow his progress here:

And, it was an eventful day for Turk Pettit

Jun 9, 2022, 2:38 PM [ in reply to On the PGA Tour . . . ]

As expected, he was among those suspended from the PGA Tour.

I detest their Leaderboard . . .

Jun 9, 2022, 2:44 PM

Turk struggled . . . Shot +3 . . . Finished the first round in the middle of the money hungry pack . . . His team, captained by Graeme McDowell is in dead last . . .

Hope he is happy with his decision and can live with it for years to come.

If the LIV doesn’t succeed, Turk may find himself giving lessons at a driving range. And, if it does succeed, he may get bumped out of the fields when more high profile players decide to join. It was a huge gamble.

I agree that it won’t be a permanent ban, but he would be starting from scratch, and that couldn’t occur until the suspension is over.

Question

Jun 9, 2022, 6:19 PM [ in reply to Re: I detest their Leaderboard . . . ]

Will the suspension of these players open slots on the tour for others?

Re: Question

Jun 9, 2022, 6:55 PM

It will definitely open up a handful of additional spots in the standard PGA TOUR tournaments each week. A small amount of shuffling in the priority lists will occur and some golfers that may have been just outside of a tournament field list, waiting as an alternate, will instead have a spot.

Additionally, there will be some golfers that get to move up in the FedEx Cup standings a little bit. This was from an article I read this morning.

"Monahan said the 10 players who resigned their PGA Tour memberships would be removed from the FedEx Cup points standings after this week's RBC Canadian Open. He wrote that "these players will not be permitted to play in PGA Tournaments as a non-member via a sponsor exemption" or any other eligibility category."

I'm guessing it is also probable that the ones that didn't resign, but are being suspended, would also be removed from the FedEx Cup list.

This will help a few golfers reach some of the milestones that they may have fallen short of otherwise. For example, someone may have originally finished the season just outside of the Top 200 and missed a chance at conditional status for the next season and a spot in the KFT Finals events, but with some additional sports being freed up, they may climb just into that Top 200 after all.

Thank you! I was hoping this would be the case.

Essentially, yes

Jun 9, 2022, 6:55 PM [ in reply to Question ]

It will mean that the guys who might otherwise have been on the alternate list will now get into a field.

Schema gave a more complete explanation. I agree with all that he said.

Excellent Day for . . .

Jun 9, 2022, 5:47 PM

both DJ Trahan and Carson Young . . . both have completed their rounds and shot -4 . . . and are currently T-30th Place

Jacob, as the afternoon rounds are being completed, has fallen to T-44th Place

Corbin had his round to -3 after his first 5 holes before the bogey/double bogey bug jumped in . . . He is currently sitting at +2 with 6 holes remaining . . .

Jonathan Byrd currently sits @ -2 through 14 holes

He is way down the priority list, so he doesn't get into many fields, but this is his seventh tournament of the season. He should always be able to get into some of the less popular and opposite field events due to his past champion status.

Jun 9, 2022, 7:02 PM

Actually, it may be his eighth between both tours. Anyway, being a past champion will get him into a handful events on the PGA TOUR and KFT each season.

Believe we may have us a generational golfer. Birdie, Birdie, Par Eagle... Way to close Jacob !!!! Go get yours young fella.

4 Tigers make the cut and shoutout to Ben... He's in it to win it. That unfortunate triple yesterday or he'd be leading. Can't believe that shank. Would love to hear his explanation.

I’m going to give my “Tip of the Cap” to Corbin Mills . . . starting on the back and after he made the turn and double bogied Hole #2, he was sitting at +1 for the tournament and 5 shots off the Cut . . . all he did was play his final 7 Holes at a -5 clip and EARNED his way into the weekend!!!

That my friends is a Tiger!!! Kudos young man!!!

Re: Jacob Bridgeman just completed his opening round . . .

Well done Tiger golfers. Both Carson and Corbin shot -3 to move up in the 40's. With solid rounds tomorrow, they can gain valuable points. Especially Carson. Corbin has work to do.

How about young Mr Bridgeman! A sweet -6 to give himself a chance tomorrow. Already been one 62 shot, may as well be Jacob tomorrow. I know he wishes he had the 2 par 5's back. One today was his lone bogey and the one yesterday... Just looking at the card and shots, he may have needed to just put the ball back in play and concede to a par. Don't know without seeing him play it.

Don't see him playing any Canadian golf!!!!

This would be interesting to do on at least 1 event

Jun 11, 2022, 6:49 PM

Would love to see the players NOT being able to use their custom clubs and have to use a set the tour would assign to them and also no caddy and have to carry their clubs. Bet we would see some ridiculous scores. Would be interesting to say the least.
