New Story: Leggett: "I am not giving up on these kids"

May 5, 2015, 8:15 AM

Leggett: "I am not giving up on these kids"

Clemson's bullpen served up two late homers Monday night and Louisville overcame a 5-4 deficit in earning a 9-5 victory and series win. With his team's NCAA Tournament chances waning, however, Clemson head coach Jack Leggett said he isn't giving up on the season or his players. Full Story »

It's a sad situation, something's got to give. The only question that I have is, what's best for Clemson and these young men? With every game played, their college careers are slipping away and I am sure none of them like the direction this team is going, they chose to come to Clemson to win! I feel for them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree - Something is Wrong

May 5, 2015, 10:08 AM

I don't have anything negative to say about Leggett, he has given most of his life to our program and represented our university well. The announcers last night talked about how great his past assistants have been and how many have gone on to be successful at other schools, he has done a great job in the past but something is wrong. We find ways to lose games and kids are not playing to their potential, fans are not interested and the program needs a shot in the arm. Winning comes with an attitude and we don't have that consistently and have not had it for a while now. Too good of a program to let it flounder.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I will not bash JL, he has done too much for the program

May 5, 2015, 11:41 AM

and university. It is kinda sad the way this story is playing out, I hope he is soaking in these last few days on the bench. It has been a good run but a change is needed....I'm afraid to say.

But I thought the recruiting was so much better the last two years and they had their kind of players again?

Re: New Story: Leggett: "I am not giving up on these kids"

I don't think recruiting is the problem. I think it's coaching and it is past time for a change there.

Who is ultimately responsible for the team overall and the pitching coach that obviously isn't getting it done?

Again, who is responsible for the kids performance? You act like Jack can do no wrong and it's absolutely ridiculous. Is he or isn't he responsible for HIS teams performance?

Your line of thinking negates the need of coaches BTW.

May 5, 2015, 3:08 PM

He uses I and not we, problems with the bullpen. Kinda looks like Pep might want to change the oil while he is under the bus. Who hired a pitching coach that wasn't a pitcher, that guy should be evaluate.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We should not give up on the kids or Jack

May 5, 2015, 6:27 PM

A coach as successful as Jack deserves our patience. Also, in watching the games we are not far off from being very good. This is a pretty young team. My biggest concern is pitching. Jack may need to make a hard choice. But that's what he is paid to do.

Re: We should not give up on the kids or Jack

May 5, 2015, 9:46 PM [ in reply to We should not give up on the kids or Jack ]

Say what? Have you watched this team play the last five seasons? It's like watching the movie Groundhog Day. It's the same mistakes OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. When you can't consistently play fundamental baseball, that's coaching, plain and simple. The program has multiple issues, including recruiting. Did you know that JL has burned so many bridges with the in state high school coaches that MANY are pushing their kids to Coastal and CofC over Clemson? I'm grateful to Jack for everything he's given to this program but it's time for a change. Honestly, it's past time for a change. I'm hoping that he'll bow out gracefully at seasons end, but don't think he will. Either way, it's time to clean house and start over.

Coach Leggett, I know you haven't given up on our team and neither have the fans. I just hope each and everyone of the Tigers haven't given up on each other. They need to believe in themselves and each other. They have to be brothers and fight for each other. Come on Tigers, I don't believe that you are not going to go down without giving all you got. I know that the Tiger fans believes in you. Come on guys lets get it done. We believe and if there are naysayers out there ... ignore them. BE...Believe and Execute. Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
