Jack: Beating a Dead Horse

Mar 17, 2015, 10:43 PM

Logging into Tigernet to see the headline "Tigers fall to Chanticleers, fall below .500 for the season" is really, really disappointing. Ten months ago I did the following analysis (http://www.tigernet.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=15320799)on Jack's tenure while at Clemson, and found an easily discernible trendline. At that point in time, there was a pretty large rift among the fan base with regards to Jack's future. Surely, adding a sub .500 season to the end of that trend line would signal the end of the Jack era...right?

To be honest, Corbin and O'Sullivan help Jack to keep our program rolling right along. Look what has happen since Pepicelli has come and walked behind Jack waiting to be told what to do. He couldn't make it as a HC, and he needs one to follow!!!

It's certainly something to talk about.

Your efforts, regardless of how received by others,

reinforced my willingness to contribute to the site.

There are a lot of good folks on TNet who offer thought-provoking commentary. Thanks for your efforts.

Thoughtful posts are getting fewer and further between. Most think they are comedians or post kweshions that make them seem childish to me.

Cwby, some time ago I posted that I acquaint sessions on

TNet with bull sessions among friends over brewskis at a local pub.

You're liable to read or hear anything - some good, some bad - with occasional barbs and blurbs tossed in the mix...even the occasional argument.

Yet, the fact remains that most all the members of this site are pretty good people, enjoying the camaraderie - even the occasional to and fro - and most would never harm a fly, much less wish ill fortune on others. Of course, there is the random loony, but you find those types among the bar crowds, too.

At the end of the day virtually all of us want what's best for Clemson - we just have a whole lot of opinions on that "what," which is what makes the site fun. I try to remain casual, refrain from taking others too seriously, avoid outright arguments and offer opinions only after pausing momentarily before hitting the post message button. Even then, at times I surprise myself with my own idiocy, stupidity and old fartage! lol

Have a good day...my Friend!

I have called out on particular one. It just seems to me that the overall level of intelligence and maturity has fallen off quite a bit. Most times I feel I am reading discussions between two adolescents. I try not to post anything I would not want my Mama to read. I enjoy your posts and wish I could be as eloquent, but as an engineer prose is not my forte.

He'd win the opener handily but the horse would dig deep and take the series.***

I broke down things as well and even used your graph: http://www.tigernet.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=15419289

Still had some leggett lovers then. I wonder if thats changed now....

"Clemson has been historically better than Carolina. That's pretty obvious." - Classof09

"No one knew we were overhyped until the season started." - Classof09

The question isn't about when his era is over.

Mar 18, 2015, 9:41 AM

The question is, will we still be a prestigious program when we go to hire our next coach? Just like our basketball program, we have been finishing mid-pack in the ACC recently. For a while, we were a top coaching destination in college baseball. Is there a point when we won't be able to go out and attract the best coaches in America?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

if fixes are planned or in place for the non-coaching issues

Mar 18, 2015, 10:09 AM

then i don't see why not, but i don't expect another name brand to follow if scholarship funding, assistant coach expenses & player amenities, etc - using a broad stroke, are not on par with fan desire, expectations or competition.

While it's obvious we've been on a downward trend since

Mar 18, 2015, 1:52 PM

'10, there's no way a guy who's been to 6 CWSs spread out in about 15 years was riding on his predecessor's coattails. here are enough legitimate criticisms of Leggett that saying he coasted on Wilhelm's success is just asinine!

Has he been coaching like an HOFer for the last 4 years? #### no. But is he a HOF Coach. Absolutely. Anyone who says otherwise is being a moron.

Re: While it's obvious we've been on a downward trend since

Mar 18, 2015, 4:18 PM

I disagree, I think Jack has been fortunate enough to take over a great program and also has benefited from some great assistant coaches (Corbin and Sully). Without these things in play, the program has fallen apart.
