gun? Why is this even a question here? If you wanna make it easier get some bird seed and some of those mouse sticky pads. nail them to the deck for easy shootin. Or put them in a birdhouse and then light said birdhouse on fire.

The wood peckers would land on it like a perch. They appreciated it. The fake owl did a little better but only for a couple of weeks. The pellet gun was more fun but I'm not good enough of a shot. Not really sure how the arsenic and wood filler worked.
I sold the wood house and built a brick house with vinyl soffits and aluminum fascia.
