Grill qweshon

Jun 3, 2014, 11:08 AM

Just moved into my new place, I now need a grill. Does anyone have a grill that I can borrow at no charge for the next couple years? I prefer a Green Egg but will listen to other offers. I assure you that the grill will be put to the lowereds work as I am very often hungry in the evening.

On the sirius tho, I need grill recomendations under or around $300. My friend has one that I've grilled on before and I really like it,char broil tru infra red is what he said it was.

Thoughts?

That grill is only $50 above your budget. If you liked it, I would say go ahead and get this one for the little bit of extra cash

Dont go cheap on a grill

Jun 3, 2014, 11:15 AM

My sister bought herself and my dad a cheap grill that was around $250 and its all kind of broken a few years later. This is compared to a grill my dad bought in the early 90's that ran until she bought him this one in 2008.

Seems like a decent grill to me, although it is no green egg.

nice little Weber grill looks just like this. Have used it a thousand times and it still works great. I had to replace the little wood handle used to roll it around but that's all the maintenance required on it in 17 years. I think they run about $75 retail.

With July 4th coming up, a lot of the big box stores will

Jun 3, 2014, 11:31 AM

be putting their grills on sale. If you can wait a few weeks, you might get a better price.

Otherwise, I think what you'll find is that, brand-to-brand, in a given price range, they're mostly the same, feature-wise, its just a matter of reading some reviews and seeing which ones are the ###### ones, which ones aren't so much.

About reading reviews

Jun 3, 2014, 11:35 AM [ in reply to With July 4th coming up, a lot of the big box stores will ]

if you are spending $300 on a 3-5 burner gas grill you will likely not see much variance in quality, despite what reviews say.

For the most part you are getting a low end grill that you should plan to last no more than several years.

JMO. I had a $1500 grill that lasted me 15 yrs then bought a $300 grill and have pretty low expectations. $100/year of service maybe?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree, reviews may just point out something glaringly bad

Jun 3, 2014, 11:48 AM

I had a $500 Weber that my parents bought as a housewarming gift that lasted me about 10 years living on the coast in Florida (high humidity, high salt atmosphere). Invested about $150 in it at year 5 or 6 on new burners and grates.

Current grill is a bigger Master Forge that's going on 2 years old. I like it, other than the regulator drives me nuts -- if I open the gas tank too quickly, i.e. at a rate any normal human would turn the knob, the safety catches and severely restricts gas flow. At which point I need to shut the tank, disconnect the regulator and leave a burner open and wait 5-10 minutes so the safety resets. Biggest PITA there is.

Maybe I should just replace the regulator....

^^this............ Big grill syndrome

Jun 3, 2014, 12:54 PM

closely related to big truck syndrome and big gun syndrome.

A man can MAKE his own grill out of a couple rocks and an old piece of window screen stuck back in the barn. He doesn't need all these valves and tanks and and regulators. And he definitely doesn't want gas cooked meat. You can do that in the kitchen over the stove flame.
