i've never once sat in the North Upper Deck at Death Valley

in 35 + straight years of attending almost every home game. Any major differences (sun, wind, view, facilities) ? Our season tix has always been in the South Upper Deck- both as a kid growing up with my family and now as an Alumni. In college it was always the hill or student section of course. If you had your choice - TDS or TDN?

TDS - Home field. Do you really want to be with any more coots than necessary?
TDN is also steeper - while technically that puts you a little closer to the action, I don't think it's worth the fear of standing.

If you are sitting in the upper upper upper TDN , might want to get some cardio work in the week before the game . That seating up there makes you pay for it twice .

I feel closer to the action in the north stands, so I enjoy it more. My wife is not a fan due to the increased sun burn potential. Sunscreen is a must in September!

I have been there for five years, not bad. It does get hot in the early games but you can see the lake, you get to see the players bus as the approach the entrance, evening games you get a nice breeze..plus I love to watch the game from there. You can watch how the defense sets up, formations..just a different view. I also sat down low my first two years and I could never see the action in the end zone away from me. Just bring some frozen water with you and a small towel to keep wet and place on your neck...wife will not be happy but hey, what else is new.

Confession. I have been up there before, but never during a game. I have always been afraid it was too far away from the action. As a student, I always camped out to get good lower bowl tickets and if they ran out, I opted for a hill ticket. Now that I am a young alumnus... seats up there are a reality for me in the next year or so. I didn't get season tickets this year because I'm still so busy at grad school.

MY FIRST SEASON TICKETS IN 1980 WERE IN SOUTH UPPER ON THE NEXT TO LAST ROW. QUITE A HIKE. BUT I WAS YOUNGER AND IN BETTER SHAPE. NOT A BAD VIEW OF THE GAME. SURE AM GLAD I AM IN LOWER SOUTH NOW. WOULD NOT MOVE IF SOMEONE OFFERED ME 50 YARD LINE SEATS

Year, i think it was scstate, but i got burnt really bad, it was extremely hot but i stayed the whole game even when the girl i was with (along with many other fans) left at halftime. One of the hottest games ive been to in DV

I've sat in just about every section, and the North (and South) upper front rows are probably some of the best seats if you like watching the game and having a great view of the field.
Is it hot? Well, yes but what do you expect in SC at the end of August? You'll be fine as long as you're not 7 months or more pregnant or over 70 years old (and not morbidly obese).
The only thing I wish they would do in the upper sections is revamp the restrooms and the concession areas, maybe add some amenities like they have been adding to the lower concourse.

bad leg from Nam and have done pretty well getting up there. I admit that row C saves me - would hate to climb to the upper rows. Row A scares me with the low rail, always watching people squeeze past those seated. View from lower rows is great - you can see action from one goal line to the other but TD's on other end are hard to judge. Can't beat watching scores from straight above the near goal line.

I have been counting the number of "first ones eaten" when the zombie apocalypse occurs (those terrified of the TDN).....TDN is not that bad. Anywhere in DV is hot in August as was stated earlier as is the whole of SC (has been since I was born here many years ago. TDN is a great place if you want to watch the game, see a play develop, and not have to stand up every time someone in front of you does. Yes the walk to your seats can be challenging at times, but who among us over fed, under exercised folks couldn't use some aerobic exercise? As far as opposing fans go, don't be scared, don't back up. Instead of walking down at the half, I walk up to admire the view of the mountains, lake, and the beauty that is Clemson in the fall. TDN....you skeered?
Columbia SC 8/04/2015 Breaking News - SC football practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player reported finding an unknown powdery substance on the practice field. Head Coach Steve Spurrier immediately suspended practice and called for police and federal investigators. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white powdery substance unknown to players was the GOAL LINE. The first 10 rows have seat backs which is nice. Sun to your back, not as many rival fans.
But once they build the bridge connecting the upper decks then there will be many more rival fans on that side checking out the stadium.

Section H row I. Close enough that it is a great view. Been sitting there since '82 with much of the same people there. Few things:
We are low enough that you can see the whole field, but have awesome seats when the action is in the west end zone. The fifty yard line is great and all but I love being close to the end zone when the action is right in front of me. I love being able to see plays develop, a bonus you miss out on when sitting lower.
You have more room than anywhere else in the stadium as there is a gap between your back and the people behind you. North upper the bleachers are level with the walkway behind you. It is a great place to put all of your crap until someone spills a drink.
More of a family atmosphere, at my point in life this is a good thing.
Sun is to your back, but still have a great view of the lake and foothills. Being on the home side is a plus. Add to being in front of the Clemson locker room is a nice way to keep up on injured (or insanely disqualified for targeting calls) players.
Tons of room in the concourse and bathrooms still have the troughs so those lines move fast. Nothing like peeing in a trough to know that it's time for football!
I have sat in all areas of the stadium, but love our seats and would much rather sit there (obviously the newly renovated boxes may be better, but have not been there yet. Usually sit in WEZ once a season, while nice I like the familiarity. Yelling "O" during the Clemson chant around the stadium is more enjoyable than an "s".
Of course, I'd rather be anywhere in the valley on Saturdays in the fall than anywhere else on the planet.

This talk of sitting in the upper decks made me think back to my experience sitting in both of them.
As a student in 1978, the South Upper Deck was opened for the USC game that year for the first time. I had a date for that game and she wore a beautiful new dress. We walked up to the upper deck and looked and I had forgot to inform my date that the aluminum seating had not been installed yet so we sat on the concrete. She took it in stride. This was Steve Fuller's senior year and we won 41-23 so that made it great. By the way, I married my date that day in 1981 and recently celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary! Another interesting tidbit is that I also sat in the North Upper Deck when it was first opened in the beginning of the 1983 season I think. I remember the Georgia game that year that ended with Kevin Butler trying a 50 something yard FG with a few seconds left. He missed it and then with less than 5 seconds left, Igwebuike(sp?) tried a 60 something yard FG that missed. Game ended in a tie, 17-17 I believe. Not sure if I have ever seen a game end with two FG attempts by both teams since.

There seems to be about a 5,000 feet change in elevation from 3A to TDN. A daunting task for me nowadays. I don't notice the sun or heat - I'm a South GA boy from near Jacksonville. You get a great view as noted elsewhere. The visitors are @ the east end & I'm near midfield. I was on that end many years ago. Sat near the FSU fans for "puntrooskie". They were fine - no jawing after the game. They had great fans back then when they first became one of the elites. Also sat near the GA fans for one of the Ford-Dooley battles. Once when GA scored, the GA fans threw everything not tied down out of the stands onto those below including drinks & probably spit cups. I do get a little dizzy walking around in circles as you go around & around to get in/out. The least charming event for me since I've been in TDN was a visit to the restroom after the SC game last year. The Gamecock fans threw hundreds of airline-type liquor bottles all over the floor & flushed them down the commodes. That stopped up the commodes & the floor was about a 1/2" deep in water (I hope). I'd never seen a liquor bottle in there before. TDN is much better than the end zone but I can't comment on other sections. I sat behind the Clemson bench a few times back in the late 50s & early 60s when I was a tag-a-long with my Big Brother & his Holding Company. It is unlikely that I shall see those seats again.
