Don't blame the players for transferring...

Dec 7, 2022, 8:13 PM

Or the opting out, or the NIL contracts. They are only doing what the adults at the NCAA, the conferences, and Congress, have allowed them to do. Those same adults have put these life altering decisions in the hands of 20 year olds. 20 year olds make decisions on the spur of the moment, and once the decision is made it's too late for them.
I blame the adults who put the no rules portal potty and NIL in place. Don't blame the kids.
Just my opinion.

Hey, if you can choose to go to war at 18, you can choose to transfer or opt out of a college sport. Let's not act like 20-year-olds aren't adults.

I know you value freedom just like I do, the more freedom to choose the better.

So many each year are missing out on a free education because no team picks them up. That number is growing each year.

Those scholarships are filled by other deserving young men.

Freedom means having the opportunity to make mistakes while trying to better yourself.

I certainly don't blame the players. But I do think it's a shame that over 40% of the scholarship players that enter the portal never find another team/scholarship. It's a huge opportunity lost for these athletes.

just because they're there.

You're right: they are going to do what we allow.

Most of the players who transfer do so because they’re not playing and have a low probability of playing next season, so I don’t believe it really hurts the team as much as people think

I agree... The individuals are hurt more than the team.

We live in freedom in the greatest nation in the world and one of those freedoms allows college athletes the right to chose schools. If their first priority is to get an education, then I applaud transfers, but sadly that is usually not the case.

NIL is a non issue because only a small minority of the thousands of athletes around the country even $1.

Heard on the radio today that skill players in the portal are getting up to 6mil in nil monies.

Of Course. Do Not Blame The Kids. But,

Pig® I personally don't have an issue with a kid transferring. It's just that; "GAMBLING" your future like that is troubling.

What do I mean? With roughly only 40% of portal players ever finding new homes; these kids are "GIVING UP FREE COLLEGE"!
I understand they think they are good enough(almost all of them do or they wouldn't be playing right). But, someone has to be honest with these kids. And, maybe someone is and they are choosing to leave anyway. Which, tbh is likely the case.

The only issue I have with it is: 1. the number of players who are in effect dropping out. Not really dropping out, but if they do not have money to pay for school if they do not get picked up; they are essentially dropping out. 2. the ability of other schools to tamper with your roster without repercussions. The NFL has free agent rules that are strict and stern for this very reason.

It's their choice and I don't hate that. But, every decision has a consequence be it good or bad long term!

Congress? The GD Congress ain’t got nothing to do with it.***

As HL Mencken said when it came to democracy, “The common people know what they want, and they deserve to get it good and hard”. Well, that applies in other situations. The “student athletes” know what they want, and they deserve to get it good and hard. Have fun finding a new home when you’re 1 of 1300 recruits in the portal.
