There are other people that can coach Defense at a high level. We will be just fine.

I recall the story about him getting the interim tag as HC. He went back to his office and pulled out the notebook he had built for the eventuality of becoming a head coach. The man is a planner.

I guarantee you he knew that BV would be a candidate and be given serious consideration.

I loved having BV as DC, but there were MORE times that...

...I can count, when an opposing offense had 3rd down, depending on the opponent, when I was BEGGING BV to NOT blitz.
AND...he would do it ANYWAY, and dang if that opposing QB would convert.
It would drive me NUTS!

Couldn't agree more; Just look at what Will Muschamp did this weekend against Alabama; And he is only an advisor.

Agreed that the DC position is replaceable, but a Venebles led defense is not replaceable. There will never be another Jimmy Greenbeans. I believe we will be fine, and Dabo has yet to prove he can’t hire good coaches. He brought in Morris when we needed new offensive schemes, and he brought in Venebles when we needed new defensive schemes. I think at least one of the two coordinator positions will be an external hire (if Elliott leaves), just not sure which one.

Coach V is great as a D Coordinator. I have my doubts for him as a head coach, but guess we will now see if I am right or not.
That said...I do wonder if some OCs were not starting to figure him out just a bit. It seemed teams that could run a hurry up offense effuciently were a bit of a problem because of how long Brent waits to call the D formation. I think Coach V made some adjustments himself to counter that, but this year did see that development.
Anyway...wish him well, until he plays us again!

Everybody is replaceable. We often get "so full of ourselves" we can't imagine the world will go on without us. Rest assured; it will. No matter how good we are at our chosen profession, our employer will be in attendance at our funeral and our Company will send a very nice flower. But within 30 days, we'll be replaced and within 90 days, we'll be a distant memory. College football is no different. Brent Venables isn't the first coach to consistently have top ranked defenses. If he is #1, there is a number 2 not far behind, and a #3 right behind him. So let's be grateful our paths crossed. I have the utmost respect for Brent Venables. He left an indelible mark on Clemson football. But he's a Sooner now so it's time to move on. It's also time to have confidence that our Head Coach knows what he's doing. Remember, Dabo found and hired BV. Not one person on Tnet was clamoring for Dabo to hire Venables when he was introduced. Bob Stoops didn't fully appreciate him either. If he had, he wouldn't have brought his brother in to "assist." I'm with Dabo. I believe our best days lie ahead. Dabo is among the top 2 or 3 college coaches in America. Let's support him, and this great group of student athletes he has assembled. Preparation for next year is already underway. Go Tigers!

BV could out-scheme the best of them. We had the best and we won't be able to replicate it. We need a great recruiter because we won't find anyone who can turn 2 and 3 stars into 5 stars like BV did.
Don't T-net murder me.
I'm sad.
