Re: I'm trying to keep an open mind on judging the Uvalde

They’re cowards. There’s no other way to put it, honorless cowards. They were in that building 3 minutes after the shooting started, with rifles and riot shields, and they didn’t even try the door. Then they lied that they only had handguns, as if that’s a valid excuse for letting 4th graders get murdered while you go outside to protect yourselves. I don’t hardly have words for it.

I get the whole adage of "don't judge unless you've been there", usually applied to war scenarios, etc, but I'm judging here. I can say, unequivocally, not as an Internet tough guy but as a basic human being, that if that were the job I had signed up for and there were kids in there with gunshots going off, myass would not have been loitering outside.

Forget that they ignored mass shooting
Jun 22, 2022, 11:09 AM

Training that's been standard since Columbine. They ignored what for the vast majority of the population is an instinctual compulsion to protect/save children from harm. Any one of the parents or bystanders would have been more than willing to race in there unarmed and take on the shooter to stop him. The cops waited, and waited. If they all ended up in prison it would be going easy on them.

law enforcement will not be there to help you if you're in a bad situation. They will, however, swiftly detain you for trying to fight back or protect yourself/your loved ones. We saw it all throughout 2020 and we saw it again here.
Any officer involved in detaining that guy should at minimum be doing some time in prison.

I mean, how many LEO's were standing around FOR AN HOUR while a rogue gunman was loose in an elementary school? Not even a couple of those mfers had the balls to say forget this, we're going in? More than that, they actively prevented anyone else from doing anything.
This is the exact same pattern we saw during the riots nationwide, violent criminals allowed to run rampant but the first time somebody even shows a hint of defending themselves they swoop in and put them in handcuffs. I'd go so far as to say they're actually becoming a hindrance to law abiding citizens, given the fact they'll throw down the hammer on those folks but won't do sh!t about actual violent criminals.

I always try to give the benefit of the doubt.
Sometimes there are protocols, etc that have to be followed (right or wrong) being in a sue happy environment.
This time, I am just not seeing a way to agree with the handling of the situation.
Do whatever it takes to finish this guy. Who cares if you get reprimanded for not following procedure or something.
This one is a real headscratcher

The evidence is clear. It's okay to say cops not only make mistakes, but are capable of inhuman behavior. Admitting their not infallible is the only way to ensure we have LEOs deserving of the badge. None in Uvalde are deserving of that honor.

untrue Uvalde PD did not follow common, long established active shooter training. It does not make untrue from day 1 they have lied about what happened. This is an opinion held by virtually every LEO expert as well as most of the population.
But that was solid effort at a duck and cover.

Agree, but seems like it will still take a while to have unequivocal ground truth as to the timeline.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the head cop take his own life if the info we have now stands as fact.

Two decades of post-Columbine mass shooting training says confront the shooter as soon as possible with or without a Tac team. If they took even 5 min of active shooter training this would have been what they were told. You don't firm defensive positions or organize teams. You confront immediately.

I get it, it was a tense situation that they had never been in before. But you have to go in and try to save people. And goodness, if they weren’t going to go in they should’ve at least let armed citizens give it a shot.
Sort of pokes holes in the “people with guns prevent mass shootings” theory.

Bad people with guns”.
I’d say it doesn’t poke holes. If you can sit there with military grade weapons, body armor, and shields and cower outside the building for over an hour while you hear shot after shot going off in a building with little kids in it, sorry, but you fail the “good person” test.
These cowards may as well have been unarmed.

I agree. It was a display of cowardice. Under no circumstances should you hurry up and “wait” to save children. It should be a natural instinct to save children. Assembly or not.
