Best streaming

May 19, 2022, 11:59 AM

I finally got fiber in my area (couldn’t even get cable before)… I’m leaning towards DirecTV Stream for Bally (RSN). Any other suggestions ? I’d like to get rid of DirecTV, but it looks like I’m stuck with them on the stream side (sports wise)

little different. I tried all of them when we got fiber on the street and got rid of satellite. Sling. Hulu. Playstation. Directnow. Youtubetv. Decided on Playstation at the time, which was before Youtubetv added a group of channels I liked. But then Sony just killed the Playstation streaming. Moved to youtubetv and have been happy with it. Don't get history and a couple of others I like, but it's got most of them.

Yeah, losing the History channel was BS***

I use youtubetv and use a spectrum login for bally

2

Jan 19, 2023, 3:56 PM

If you have this option youtubetv is the way to go. It has the best and most user friendly interface by far for a college football/sports fan.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You can also do youtubetv + the $15/per month bally sub

Jan 19, 2023, 3:57 PM

likely no more than Direct Stream total

One word of warning. If you have Roku boxes, I have seen problems with the DTV app. A brief audio dropout about every 10 secs. It’s really irritating and it’s been months without a fix.

I cut the cord 3 years ago and haven't regretted it.......

Jan 19, 2023, 4:24 PM

YoutubeTV is my "cable" format, but I pay LESS for YoutubeTV + Netflix + Disney+ + Hulu + paramount+ COMBINED (internet included) than my parents and in-laws pay for standard cable/internet.

kinda crazy.

I pay $200+ for really nothing with Directv satellite… I really just have to have Clemson sports, Discovery Science for me,,, then Food Network and Lifetime for the wife

No, it’s Upcountry Fiber

pretty crappy though. But I put our phones on wi-fi calling and get great phone signal inside the house! I need to add a booster to improve my signal out in my yard!

I use Eeros throughout my house to boost signal and gives great coverage even outdoors, but that signal issue also has to do with what materials was used to build your house. Not sure if you are saying you are wanting to boost WiFi or cell tower coverage. My suggestions were just for Wi-Fi signal.

A product called Plume also does very well.

switch from wi-fi to cell as soon as I walk out the door, which is pretty much what happens now.

We switched from Direct TV after almost 20 years with them and went with YoutubeTV. Best move we ever made. Love it.

I switched to YouTubeTV 4 years ago from Direct TV

Jan 19, 2023, 7:25 PM

I don't save that much since I only had one TV on Direct and kept the price down around $70, but only by calling them every few months ad threatening to cancel. Actually did twice in the last year and they sent me a $300 Visa card to sign back up! It made my net cost only $35 per month!

But I hated the DTV business model of jacking the price up and making you beg to get it back down. So many folks don't call them like I did, and are getting absolutely robbed by DTV, paying $2-300 per month!

YouTube has gone up a couple times in the last four years, so it's $65 plus tax now, but they have added more channels. And I can have three devices for that same price!

The only thing I'm missing at all are the Bally regional channels, but seems like they are often blacked out anyway!

Originally YouTube TV carried Bally's channels, but apparently, Bally priced itself out of the lineup.

It’s a never ending battle with service providers and the monies wanted to carry their channels. A lot of these channels are sold in small groups owned by the same company and if no deal is negotiated you may lose 1 or 2 channels that you liked but in reality you may have lost 5 or 6 and had no clue because you never watched them.

They negotiate these deals based on the number of subscribers and the prices they negotiate are different for every CATV and streaming provider.

These apps are the future and will allow you to pay for what you want.

I currently work for a CATV company and we just switched our platform over to Stream and are now taking out all these digital boxes. They carry a lot more channels than what I’m getting on Youtubetv but they are also a lot more expensive. I do pay for our companies internet which at the end of the day is where the money is at. The money you make or should I say don’t make on CATV would surprise a lot of people. As soon as they can get the fiber ran to most of these rural areas I expect satellite will start to be pushed out. Fiber can run all our services and we have started to phase our current copper infrastructure as well. Been there 27 years in March and the changes I have seen blows my mind.

I started with Playstation TV then it was cancelled...

Jan 20, 2023, 4:01 AM

I then switched to YouTube TV but they kept getting into contract arguments with everyone from channel providers to app hosts (i.e. ESPN, Roku etc...) and would lose content until those disputes were settled. I got tired of the constant yo-yo game with YouTube TV and decided to try Fubo TV and have never looked back.

Been with Fubo TV for almost 2 years - never lost any channels (temporary or otherwise) due to contract disputes and if you like sports I think it is the best overall sports streamer out there. When I had YouTube TV I also subscribed to Philo in order to get some of the channels YouTube TV didn't have (AHC - American Heroes Channel and a few others like it). I found that Fubo TV has all of them and throws in Curiosity Stream as well so having everything by one streamer for the same cost was a plus.

Overall I'm very happy with Fubo TV - the streaming quality is top rate, the 1000 hours of DVR space is more than enough for me, their app is very good and is available on all the major platforms/streaming boxes/TV brands.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But Fubo still doesn't have Bally Sports, does it? I tried

Jan 20, 2023, 6:55 AM

Fubo a few months ago, and didn't like their interface as well as YouTube's. I've tried most all of the streamers and YouTubeTV has the best interface for me.

Re: But Fubo still doesn't have Bally Sports, does it? I tried

Jan 20, 2023, 7:28 AM

They do or will soon. I just got an email from FuboTV that they are going up $5.00 per month in February because they are adding Bally Sports. From the email:

Adding these networks gives FuboTV subscribers access to their respective local Bally Sports channels, including:

Bally Sports Arizona

Bally Sports Oklahoma

Bally Sports Detroit

Bally Sports San Diego

Bally Sports Florida

Bally Sports SoCal

Bally Sports Great Lakes

Bally Sports South

Bally Sports Indiana

Bally Sports Southeast

Bally Sports Kansas City

Bally Sports Southwest

Bally Sports Midwest

Bally Sports Sun

Bally Sports New Orleans

Bally Sports West

Bally Sports North

Bally Sports Wisconsin

Bally Sports Ohio
