Drew Swinney in for last offensive drive

2

Nov 27, 2022, 3:05 PM

I want to know what people think about Drew Swinney being in the game when there's 3 minutes left and we're down at home. Say what you want about playcalling, say what you want about DJ, but why is a player with nearly zero game experience even in high school in the game? I can't imagine coming to Clemson and sitting on the bench while the undeserving coaches kid is getting snaps in the biggest moment all year. Drop your thoughts below

He is one of the only guys that can catch a knuckleball thrown 2 yards behind him?

Someone else posted that he didn't play...

....until after EJ dropped his second pass of the day.

Correct call in my opinion. EJ was playing terribly.

Drew has caught everything thrown his way and actually shown a bit of ability to run. EJ is obviously a better athlete, but if he drops catchable balls and makes no effort on 50/50 balls, then....

Even saw him make a difficult catch in much traffic a few games back. At least he can do what a couple other WRs can't.

the only good politician is a dead politician.

I've given my thoughts on Oprah scholarships many times.....

It was one thing to twitter blast ONE walk-on schollie per year for a feel good story (ie renfrow)..........it's so common place now that it would be heavily criticized if they were all twitter blasted out for all to see...........Now they're just "snuck in" when a guy hits the portal.

I think it shows how weak our WR room is. Giving up space to a coach's son who wasn't even good in HS is a waste. I suspect we are going to see some WR's hit the portal and that is probably a good thing.

he’s got better hands than 60% of the other guys

In there. He should have been playing earlier.

I like 5'6" Drew's effort, ability to catch, and ability to hold for FG's and XP's. He should not be on scholarship based upon his father's salary and skill level.

And he doesn’t quit on a route. It would be nice if we had

one of our recruited WRs with immensely more athletic ability do the things he does well so that he didn’t have to play.

Not about the free ride as I am sure he gets free tuition for Dabo working there. It is all about how scholarship athletes get treated and the extra stuff they get that non-scholarship players don’t get. I know first hand as my neighbors son was a walk on and never got a scholarship. People can bury their heads in the sand all they want but believe me, nepotism exists.

Here's the thing; you don't want the coach's kid in at the end of the game?
Start catching the ball.
Start blocking on the edge.
Start running crisp routes.
Don't run into each other so you prevent a pretty easy 3rd down conversion earlier in the game.

I can understand how frustrating it is for them to have a QB who can't seem to hit them when they're open... but they can complain about who is in and not in when they're performing at a much higher level than we've seen the past two years.
