I’ve been a tiger fan since 1980

Oct 16, 2021, 1:38 PM

I graduated Clemson in 85. My memory does not serve me well maybe but I don’t recall a worse offensive team than what we have now. I could be wrong . Hard to watch this offense play. Something should change and typically those changes don’t come about after 6 games . This team could lose another game or 2

"Why NOT Clemson"
"Why Not Dabo"

West, Bowden, some of Hatfield come to mind. Prevagen may be helpful for your memory

We looked this bad, but never this many in a row. The concerning thing about this offense is it hasnt improved. Pace and Mafah maybe, but offense as a whole is just as bad now as game 1.

I graduated in '90

We obviously watched a lot of the same football. Main issue back then was that our offense was outdated and one-dimensional, even for back then. Add a real passing game to those defenses, those running backs and offensive lines... and we're competing with Miami for the national championship every year of the late '80s.

Five to six years later, then yeah... offense was as bad as it is now. Probably worse.

No way, Ford’s offense was 3 yds and a cloud of dust.

Hatfield and West were atrocious offenses. Not that our current one, isn’t but even with the problems it was better than those mentioned under previous regimes.

I agree but our 1981 National Championship we didn't put alot of points up either except against Wake Forest.

The 1981 offense scored over 30 three times that year - 45 against Wofford, 38 against Duke and 82 against Wake. I hope this years team can top that.

Offense was this bad in the mid-late 90's...

Oct 16, 2021, 1:50 PM

under Tommy West. But at least he had the excuse of "we got who we got". Our talent level (or at least the perceived talent level based on recruiting "stars") is vastly better than at any time during West's time, but we are almost that bad.

There's no defending Caldwell at this point, or Streeter. Line him up under center, throw to the tight end 5 times in a row... we still needed fake punts and a lucky missed kick to outscore a bad team with one of the worst offenses in P5 football. Dabo is in a tough spot. He has some hard decisions to make at the end of this season... decisions about coaches and players.

This post is spot on

This is a Tommy West-level offense.

Be interesting to see what happens at the end of the season if this lack of offensive production continues.

I dont think I will ever get over the West hire. 4-7 in his one year of HC experience. Danny fan appeasement attempt is the only case you can make for him. An era of decent D and never any offensive identity

You haven't changed a bit in 20 years. Good post.***

This is a great summary comparison. Anyone who endured those Tommy West teams saw offense this bad, lack of scheme and play on the field. But they had nowhere near the players we have now. On those teams, a guy like Ajou would’ve been a freak. And he doesn’t even start for this team. Clemson fans aren’t wrong for expecting better.

Yes You Have

Oct 16, 2021, 1:56 PM

you just've done the right thing and wiped those memories from your mind. The current offense actually has the intent to be aggressive but lacks talent and execution. Those Hatfield/West/Ford offenses were focused on ball control/time of possession.

offenses in the late 60's and early to mid 70's. Along with those later on under West. It actually was historically more prevalent than the recent sustained history of great offenses.

We only had three plays and couldn't run any of them consistently
