I’ve arrived at these thoughts on the transfer portal....

1) I trust Dabo to navigate the portal his own way.
2) Dabo has given his word to the players currently on the team.
3) Albeit College Football rules have changed, Dabo is not gonna sell Clemson’s soul to the transfer portal.
4) Dabo will likely have a new message to high school recruits and potential transfer portal guys in light of the new rules but will still honor his original message to the current players.
If all of this is the case and it costs us a national championship, I’m fine with it. Some things are more important than a football game. He’ll figure it out.

100% with you on your thoughts. He brings these kids in to play not using the portal to not give their opportunity. I trust in Dabo.

So here’s a hypothetical situation, which isn’t too far from potentially being reality.
After the upcoming spring practice Clemson loses 10 players to the transfer portal.
How do we fill those slots if not through the portal?

the question is who not how, who in the portal fits Clemson culture and who in the portal wants to come to Clemson, not everyone wants to come here... they have to go to class, they steal crab legs they won't play... so you go tell me who we should get then ask yourself do they want to come to Clemson? I'll wait for your list... all the top recruits are on the 247 page...

I support your sentiment,guys but if you read Bretfsu on how the Florida Legislature is ready to authorize schools having agents on campus and legalizing $$$ for players (maybe bret will reaffirm this), when other schools are offering $$$$$$$$ out the wazoo, it will be interesting how long you tolerate Dabo when he wins 6 games a year for 3 years and the ACC looks like SoCon...Think about it...We are in uncharted waters...

He doesn't tell recruits that they are not going to have to compete for their spot. Why is bringing in somebody from the portal, somehow going back on his word to a recruit? We will recruit other players to that position while that player is here. I have always been a little hazy on that argument, especially since some strange loyalty to a recruit would negatively affect every other player on the team.
I have understood his position in the past to be that he could get better players through recruiting. For the most part that is the case, but the amount of traffic through the portal is changing the dynamic. We will probably still have some spots open after National Signing Day. Let's see if his attitude has changed with the portal before swearing to his past beliefs.

Nowhere in my original post did I say that I or Dabo were against using the portal.
I just think that it comes down to his message to his current and future players, regardless of whether they come from HS or portal. I trust him to figure out a way to navigate that and send a message that he and Clemson can stand by.
