First off,Duke and North Carolina will be in the same division because that would be the way they would want ,and get,it.Don't forget who the Commionisher is! Secondly,Notre Dame won't be in either division because techinally they are not a part of the ACC football landscape.

and Louisville would be geographically north too. It would all even out eventually.
In the 8 ACC Championship games played, 7 teams from the Northern half of the conference have appeared (8 if Wake is an ACC North team) and 3 teams have won (again, 4 if you count Wake).
People forget that schools like Boston College have been very successful in the past, and other schools like Syracuse or UVA certainly have the potential to make good runs.

UT - traditionally good ?
Apr 29, 2013, 8:31 AM
|

Disagree. Except during the decade or so that Fulmer had them playing for and winning a national championship , they havent ever really been very good. Look at the overall win -loss record. Alabama is and always will be a traditional power ...but the Vols pulled a Sackerlina and had a nice , abbreviated little successful period. It can be argued that we ended it when we spanked them in the Peach-fil-a bowl in 2004.

actually reply to the correct post these days so not sure who this was directed to. Anyway, all I said was, in the year 2003, with Tennessee a national power, who would have expected them to fall flat on their faces within a few years.

Gone are Legends and Leaders, the controversial division names the Big Ten adopted in 2011, as the league went with a clear geographical model and geographic names for its new alignment.
The Big Ten East will include: Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers. The Big Ten West will include: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin.
Every East division team is located in the Eastern time zone, while every West division team except Purdue is located in the Central time zone.
Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany told ESPN.com that geography was the first priority in aligning divisions, followed by preserving rivalries and then competitive balance. The Big Ten used competitive balance as its top priority in aligning the Legends and Leaders divisions in 2011.
"It's pure geography," Delany said. "Last time, we were a combination of competitive balance and geography being last. So those names weren't available to us last time. We didn't have a lot of discussion on it."

About them being a good program traditionally , if good is the 4-5 loss a year kind of good. Alabama great decade after decade ..Tennessee has hit some highs but they are not a traditional powerhouse throughout their history.

ACC should divide into North/South divisions. LOUISVILLE should find a home in the southern bracket ...put Miami in with the Northern schools.

The southern-most school in the conference (by a long shot) in the North? That's really taking advantage of them. I understand their fans don't necessarily travel any way, but that's a tremendous amount of travel.
Not to mention that a school with that much tradition will find a way back to relevancy. I know Louisville is the hot pick right now, but I'd rather play Miami every year.

setup which is essentially what a North/South Alignment is. I also think the schools like being able to play throughout the east coast instead of being stuck up north or down south especially with the new scheduling.
