Dabo hiring from within

Jan 2, 2022, 10:13 AM

Response on an earlier post:

Dabo went outside the current coaches to hire the new OC and DC....He just did it while Brent and Tony were still here!!!! In other words, Dabo is now looking over the country for the next OC and DC to replace the current ones, and getting them on staff! Dabo always has a plan!

That’s all well and good but

Jan 2, 2022, 10:18 AM

Just because someone has a “plan” doesn’t mean they always work.

If his roster management “plan” doesn’t improve you will see a continued slide further away from where we once were.

Yeah, Dabo has been so wrong over the years. Do you say positive things sometimes ?

Nobody is questioning Dabos past.

Jan 2, 2022, 10:50 AM

We are concerned with the current state of the program. Seems risky not to hire an OC IMO

Hope streeter installs a totally new offense

What do you base that on?
The slide?
Going into this year everybody in the media and every person on this board thought Clemson would challenge for A National Championship. It was a forgone conclusion that they would be ACC champs.
That was based on past performance and the great recruiting classes including the last one!
Everyone thought DJ would be in the running for the Heisman trophy.
Injuries ! Injuries ! Injuries!
That’s what happened!
And with all that the coach you have no faith in got this team to a 10 win season .
They had 30 scholarship players in the bowl game!
Are you kidding me? Are you that ignorant? Are you so full of yourself that you think you could do better?
Well you can’t and Clemson Tigers Football will be just fine! You on the other hand I am not so sure about!

It’s simple.

Jan 2, 2022, 10:42 AM [ in reply to Re: That’s all well and good but ]

2018 was the peak

Enter into the picture transfer portal

2019 - obliterated in the national title game
2020 - obliterated in the semi
2021 - won the cheez it bowl but we can hang hat on the 10-win season. Left with a massive scholarship deficit thanks to the portal.

Dabo must improve his roster management or the SLIDE will continue. Are you that ignorant not to see it or are your glasses too orange??

He lost in the National Championship.
He lost in the CFP
He won 10 games with a once in a lifetime amount of injuries!
Do you not understand how high of a standard that is.
You seem to think that it’s possible to win every game by 100 points from now to eternity!

What Dabo has done is incredible!!!!!

Don’t blame me for setting the standard. What’s Dabo gonna do to adapt and sustain the standard he built. We’ve dipped each of the last 3 years.

Not having a capable starting QB or backups was the reason for our downfall this year. This, and the continued lack of player development on offense, minus our RB’s, pick any position. We had a championship defense and could have hung with anyone IF only an above average offense.

Make excuses, look the other way or pretend we saw something else than we did. It is what is is or was what is was at this point.

Winning ten games with DJ at quarterback was a miracle and Dabo should be praised for this amazing feat,

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It’s simple.

Jan 2, 2022, 12:54 PM

Yes, Dabo did a masterful job of holding everything together. There probably aren't a handful of HCs in the country that could have done that given all the injuries. Under those conditions, winning 10 with DJU5 at QB was miraculous.

Now, to the future... what I would like to see Dabo do is to objectively evaluate his choices at QB going into next season based on performance leading up to the opening game. What I would not like to see him do is to try to prove he was "right about DJU" by sticking with him too long. Those are my own personal likes and dislikes. At the end of the day, though, regardless of what he chooses I will trust him in the long run. I'm not a coach or a player... I'm a Tiger FAN.

Where’s Judge at when you need to shed more unnecessary negativity on the football program…

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Injuries + early departures + unexpected transfers + DJ woes

Jan 2, 2022, 10:45 AM [ in reply to Re: That’s all well and good but ]

That is what happened this year. I reserve judgement on the “plan” not working until we get into the meat of our schedule next year and see how the team looks at that point.

Doubting Dabo has proven to be a fool’s errand. “Patience grasshopper” is what I tell folks who jump to dire conclusions too soon. I’ve got a feeling the Tigers will be in the natty hunt next year once again no recruiting will rebound tremendously as a result of the staff weathering the changing of the guard just fine. Wait and see.

My biggest concern is the impact that NIL shenanigans and other teams using the transfer portal to poach players from other teams. If those inequities are not addressed by the NCAA, then Clemson and Dabo will have some hard moral choices to make. We may have to decide that we are not interested in being a semi pro league team and opt to let the 15-20 teams who want to become that just break off and do that and abandon the scholarship facade altogether. I would hate it but would totally be on board with opting out of the semi pro model in lieu of being a true STUDENT-athlete based football program.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

100% on the NIL

Jan 2, 2022, 10:50 AM

That’s the one thing Dabo can’t really control. Clemson doesn’t have the money to keep up on that front.

Re: That’s all well and good but

Actually, we are sliding back down to where we have always been. You guys have to realize that the last 5 or 6 years are not where Clemson has historically been on the football landscape. We are not Alabama. As much as you guys seem to think we are.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There’s no reason we have to go back to that ?

Jan 2, 2022, 10:55 AM [ in reply to Re: That’s all well and good but ]

That’s a loser attitude

We have the resources. We’re paying our HC 10 million dollars and we own the ACC.

Why would we pay to go back to Bowden ?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

100% - the concern that others don't seem to have is that it

Jan 3, 2022, 4:08 PM

won't take much for us to slide back to where we were. A wrong hire or 2 or the inability to adapt to changes in college football could easily cause that to happen. We have the resources now to not let that happen. Questioning everything to make sure the correct path is being taken and shouldn't be considered anti-Clemson or Dabo.

Bama has lost to Clemson more in the CFP playoff than

Jan 2, 2022, 11:27 AM [ in reply to Re: That’s all well and good but ]

any other CFP opponent. Saban's worst loss since the CFP started was a 28 point loss to Clemson in the 2018 CFP Title game.

What are we sliding back to? Our losses this season were not due to our defense, it was due to our limits at QB. I think we are addressing that with this recruiting class.

If you go back and look at Bama's record from 1982 in Bear Bryant's last year, through to 2007 when Saban becoming the head coach the combined record for Bama was 213 wins and 106 losses.

When Saban retires in the next 2-4 years, Bama will go back to the 25 year trend before Saban got there. It took Bama hiring and firing 7 coaches during that 25 years between Bear Bryant and Saban.

Hiring someone young with little to no real coaching experience that will be grateful and loyal to you so you can promote them later to do exactly what you want exactly the way you want it!

But .. puppets are loyal. They do exactly as told, like calling their plays instead of allowing the OC to do so. I watched BV and the D get yelled at all year, and they carried the team.

Re: Right. Getting the next OC/DC at Clemson means

Jan 2, 2022, 1:08 PM [ in reply to Right. Getting the next OC/DC at Clemson means ]

Streeter had experience (OC at Liberty and Richmond). Then he came in and learned from the Clemson staff. His college days included Richrod as coordinator. He had Morris film to study when he first came to Clemson (it was the first year after Morris).

This was Dabo hiring his new coordinator because of all the talk about Scott and Elliot going elsewhere. that is why he did not need time to pick TE's replacement, he already had him.

Wes did not have coordinator experience, but even Brent leaned on him for analysis. He had been offered jobs in the NFL and college for several years. He did not leave, because he knew he was Dabo's pick for DC when Brent left...

Dabo knows. He knew when these two hires were made years ago, that he had his new coordinators when they were needed. I am sure the only surprise he had was doing them in the same year.
