I thought we were doing fine on ticket sales to this one.

Dec 11, 2012, 10:46 AM

How many have been sold?

Dec 11, 2012, 11:00 AM [ in reply to I thought we were doing fine on ticket sales to this one. ]

One problem they have is I bought tickets on stubhub for less than face value and they are lower level.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Here's a tip: Get better seats and prices for IPTAY donors.

Dec 11, 2012, 12:11 PM

When we can go to the CFA bowl site or stubhub and get a better deal, something is wrong. We want to support Clemson and buy the tickets from the school, but we are also trying to stay out of the red.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I second the tip above

Dec 12, 2012, 2:42 PM [ in reply to Re: I thought we were doing fine on ticket sales to this one. ]

I have had my fill of paying premium price for upper corner endzone seats while I look around at empty seats on the lower level....even on the sidelines. It's time the schools require the bowls to allocate their 20,000 seats to each school from the 35 to the back of the end zone on the lower level. Let the scalpers and late buyers get the endzone, upper level if they get sold at all. The sponsors can have the 35 to 50 and on down the sideline for their donation but not the entire lower level. I have to admit that my corner, back endzone, upper level seat was good enough at the 81 Orange...

Re: Football Update: Clemson AD asks fans to help bottom line by buying bowl tickets

Dec 11, 2012, 10:47 AM

does Barker and the AD buy tickets for their family members or do they come from the 3,000 for players, coaches & staff? i've always heard that the Admin runs up the expenses wining & dining their egghead pals rather than the Football program.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL, I know that isn't a serious question....

Dec 11, 2012, 3:21 PM

Barker & Co pay for NADA! My neighbor is an "unnamed" big-wig at Clemson and I went to a VIP pre-bowl party with him a few years ago and all the big hats were there...

...all I can say is, yes, buy those tickets, because I like to drink Heineken!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL...He is already asking for money from the fans.....

Dec 11, 2012, 10:50 AM

FIY...This isn't GT...We actually expect a return our investment...

It would be most helpful to give us a tally on tickets sold since you want us to help out on the bottom line...

When the Auburn game wasn't sold out, they gave us an update on the number of tickets and they we sold...I even bought 4.

Dec 11, 2012, 10:52 AM

Yeah, maybe next time don't start offering the lower level tickets to IPTAY donors who have 325+ points. That puts a bad taste in your mouth.

I noticed it didn't last long.

Also, how about selling the tickets for the same price at which you can buy them directly from the CFA site.

Dec 11, 2012, 11:10 AM

Lucky for the CFA bowl, they have great community partners that buy up most of the tickets so they never go out ot the public. Otherwise the bowls undercut the schools in their prices.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

also there were over 400 tix on stuhub for under $50

Dec 11, 2012, 11:38 AM [ in reply to 325 IPTAY points and higher prices....sign me up! ]

the cheapest IPTAY seat is $80. You don't even find out where your dealt are until your tax arrive. The AU game was it for me I'm done buying tax from the university, it's secondary market from now on for away games.

Maybe if they weren't taking the all of the band and cheerleaders down a week early to Miami like they did last year and paying for them to go to Disney World on the way, we wouldn't have this problem.

Seems to me our athletic department is just asking to go in the red for so many frivolous expenses.

Re: Football Update: Clemson AD asks fans to help bottom line by buying bowl tickets

Dec 11, 2012, 11:00 AM

I understand that the sale of tickets is very important. That said, it surely would be nice if the fans who support the program by attending the games, giving generously to IPTAY, etc., had tickets available to us that were not in the End Zones. Notice the ticket map posted earlier, and the schools' allocations are pretty crappy seats when you can go to Stub Hub, et.al. and get good seats. If they want full stadiums, they could start by allocating some desirable seating to us, rather than to Stub Hub, Corporate sponsors who really have no dog in the fight and don't put butts in the seats, etc. I know they are important to the success of the games, but geez. Don't complain about attendance when fans aren't looked after. JMO

Dec 11, 2012, 4:03 PM

Absolutely right. Trying to play on guilt emotions when we get the shaft doesn't cut it with me. I do attend and support the programs in a very nice way, but call BS on bad deals, and the ticket distribution system in the bowl games we participate in are bad. Scheduling the game last year on a Wednesday night right after the holidays when nearly everybody with a job has to be focused on keeping their job is just foolish. IMO

Came in to pretty much say what you did, so +1 to this.

Also, I didn't think this came off very well. It's YOUR job to worry about our bottom line.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Clemson fans are showing up to the games, but just aren't buying through IPTAY. Quit ripping off the people you are pleading to for help, and maybe they'll listen. IPTAY members should get priority seats at or below what they'd be able to find thru another source. Otherwise, this will continue to happen.

Also, anyone who purchased tickets to the debacle that was the 2012 Orange Bowl, should get priority seats for half for this bowl. I'm serious.

Re: Football Update: Clemson AD asks fans to help bottom line by buying bowl tickets

I'm not even asking for discounted pricing, but I do ask for seating that is as good. That ought to be the least standard that should be looked at.

Re: Football Update: Clemson AD asks fans to help bottom line by buying bowl tickets

Dec 11, 2012, 11:00 AM

Wow, this is ballsy. Fans will "help" the bottom line when a product is sold they want to see. Fans obviously aren't buying tickets b/c they don't believe the bowl game is a show they will want to see. Even though I would buy the tickets if I lived closer to Atlanta, I tend to agree with the majority.

Further, all this coaching carousel crap that is happening right now has to be a distraction to the players and recruits. It would have been more professional, IMO, that the current coordinators ask schools that are interested in them to wait till after the bowl game for interviews. If I were Dabo, I'd be proud of my hires that they are highly sought after, but I'd be pissed they they are causing this distraction before such an important bowl game for this program. Win this game and we come into the season with a high ranking and will have early national recognition exposure.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, it has nothing to do with the product on the field.

Dec 11, 2012, 11:03 AM

Its pretty obivous that Clemson needs to get creative

Dec 11, 2012, 4:03 PM [ in reply to Re: Football Update: Clemson AD asks fans to help bottom line by buying bowl tickets ]

to move some tickets. Not going to rehash to much but bottom line the 2004 Peach Bowl still haunts the Clemson Ticket Office.

They lost the loyalty of the average fan when they could not deliver tickets, and then quite frankly waited to the last minute to inform the fans of the problem. So their is no trust or reason for the average fan to go to the Clemson Ticket office. To many other outlets to get better seats at better prices.

That said, Clemson still needs to move tickets. That is why they need to get really creative in how they sell them. For instance IPTAY could step in by offering a limited chance to contribute an additional $100 and receive a complimentary ticket. That way, you get a tax deduction and get IPTAY points for a ticket you were going to buy anyway. It will require extra work on their part, but oh well. Welcome to the new normal where you work twice as hard for a half as much.

The other crap though about losing money is lame. I think we need to relook at the 3000+ tickets allocation for team, band, staff, etc. I have a filling their could be some savings in those areas (and I am not talking about cutting player tickets or Tiger Band)!

Re: Football Update: Clemson AD asks fans to help bottom line by buying bowl tickets

Dec 11, 2012, 11:02 AM

If the ticket office could respond to supply and demand in pricing their allotted tickets, they could be sold. This game turns out to be soft in demand from both sides and good seats are cheaper on the secondary market. As it stands, both schools will likely end up eating many tickets (especially upper level as you can get them for a song on eBay and Stubhub).

buying seaon tickets, going to away games and going to bowl games for over a decade. Away games and bowl games can get quite expensive when you add in travel cost, hotels, restaurants and any other items you may want to purchase. I feel like I have not spent my money wisely when I come home feeling physically ill from the product that we put on the field. This feeling has come about through years of time and money spent on disappointment. I hope those that do go to ATL have a good time but I have come home from that city MANY times sad and disappointed, I will not this year.

the cost for the band to go is a drop in the bucket. could you imagine what a game would be like without tiger rag? that's what you would get if they didn't do something for the band. these kids are all volunteers, many of which pay their way through schooling (thus paying for the lousy 1 hour credit to be in the band) and unless things have changed in the 2 years I've been out, there are no scholarships for students that dedicate 15+ hours a week of valuable time to be in the band. bowl games are their only compensation.

I'm pretty sure the LSU band knows Tiger Rag.

Throw a $20 in the tip jar and they'll play for your listening pleasure.

We probably won't score more than four times versus LSU's defense.

We could probably get out of it for less than $160.

my biggest beef is seating is a crapshoot

Dec 11, 2012, 11:18 AM

I'd happily buy through the University if I could pick my seats - or at least KNOW what section I'll be sitting in when I send my money.

You would think that in this day and age there would be a method to determine your seats at purchase. Now, you have to wait until the week before to see where you will be "placed".

Meanwhile, on StubHub, you can CHOOSE where you want to sit, and in many cases, pay less. Can't blame people for opting for that method of getting tickets.

Dec 11, 2012, 12:10 PM

for itself as a result of the 2004 Peach Bowl ticket fiasco.

The ticket office has no one to blame but itself for fans going to secondary markets for tickets.

The seats are better, the prices are substantially similar, and you don't get jerked around by your own university and run the risk of possibly ending-up without tickets.
