The reason CDS hires former players is that he is controlling…

Sep 26, 2021, 2:29 PM

He sees it as his job to control the culture and what happens and the one way to do that is hire a former player. I’m a “senior” at my job and it helps to hire former “interns” when you want to control the culture and direction of things. I have learned unfortunately that you live and die by that kind of staffing. Eventually it becomes hard to get rid of folks who are like family(sons) and you are like their “father.” There has been plenty of inept things in situations like these that can’t easily be addressed. Dabo wants this ClemsoN culture thing to work and I hope he doesn’t run the program into the ground to do it.

I feel rather certain that he will not let it fully collapse. But for this season, he has a lot of repair work to do and it includes more staff correction than player changes. The defense yesterday without three stalwarts, played well enough to win but when they are on the field for 42 minutes plus 2 OTs, things go amiss as they wear down. The offensive game plans thus far in '21 are very troublesome to Tiger fans. The execution by the offense has been w/o great effort.
But if you think the GT game was a real heavy concern, note what the Jackets did to UNC last night. We have some very tough opponents coming up--BC is the 1st one on the docket.

I think he does it because he doesn't want guys coming on board as coaches who are just wanting to polish their resume tben move on to a better job. In Dabos mind, going with former players means they are more likely to be loyal and stick around.

you should just stick to the race-baiting***

Say whatever…but he’s right. At least part of the problem.***

It’s a form of nepotism.

Sep 26, 2021, 3:07 PM

Same as cronyism.

And this is also the problem with inclusion, diversity, and equity. The cult of diversity

They are all forms of dogmatic control that all fail in the end because none of them create excellence over the long run. The only thing that creates excellence over the long run is meritocracy, which is why Alabama is so good. They recruit the best and they play the best and nothing else matters but winning! Nick Saban hates losing more than he loves winning. And he will make any adjustment or any staff change or bench any player regardless of seniority if it improves the odds of winning!

Dabo did that in the past. But these last two years he has been incapable of getting his ego and stubbornness out of the way.

Needed to use the transfer portal to fill needs this year.

Um no. It shows he is very loyal

Sep 26, 2021, 3:38 PM

probably to a fault. It’s the same reason that he has not taken players from the portal or built his team by over signing and cutting kids’ scholarships. He’s loyal to his players. He’s loyal to the people who played a part in getting him to where he’s at.

We all know you love to take cheap shots at Dabo without putting much thought into what you’re posting but you’re going to have to try again because you’re way off base....again.

Totally correct ..... and we all admired him for doing that until we hit this bump in the road. The bottom line is that it is his staff and it is him that will have to fix it. Dabo is a person that would have been successful in anything that he does and I suspect that he will do what is necessary to get things back on track.

Such an epic fail of a post.

Sep 26, 2021, 5:42 PM [ in reply to Um no. It shows he is very loyal ]

I’m never far off, quite the contrary, I’m usually dead on! That’s why people don’t like my posting because it’s so #### honest and accurate

I don’t take cheap shots. I simply point out the truth. if you think that’s taking a cheap shot then you’ve got bigger issues.

Dabo is clearly loyal to a fault, but this is far bigger than that!

I didn’t reply to you.

If you want to be right about everything you should probably start by paying closer attention to where people respond on a message board.

I admire Dabo. But as a fellow leader of a public organization I’ve made similar decisions

Sep 26, 2021, 7:23 PM [ in reply to Um no. It shows he is very loyal ]

To protect and promote a worthy vision, mission and culture. It’s my job just like this is his. I hired former interns loyal to me and even younger siblings. It worked to secure the culture but when things went bad at any point along the way it was difficult and the folks dependent on our organization felt it just like we are. It might be the right thing in the long run and I hope it works cause I love the culture central to ClemsoN football. I have relationships with a few football staff and they are excellent in character and commitment- good men and families. I’m glad about and for them but there could be some bumps along the way. I basically had to let my best friend and former intern go last year- it was hard rowing.

Dabo does not offer just any player either. He does have a culture that he wants to maintain.

Don't know his reasons. There are pros and cons to the practice.
You need to bring in outsiders to bring in new knowledge and experiences. I think Dabo has reluctance to bring in someone who knows more about a particular offensive system than he does.
Saban has always brought in the most elite coaches he can find. I think Dabo should take a few Saban lessons.

Always tried to hire people who were better and who brought different expertise. 21 former players on staff. 12 kids from a local high school - lots of people beholding to Coach. He enjoys helping folks out. Needs to be balanced. He got Venables. He got Mike Reed. He is a really bright guy. He will fix it.

when Dabo took over when ever he went higher to do something and was asked why, he always said because that is how Alabama does it. Now he needs to do the same with coaching and transfer portal. He need to hire the best experienced coaches and use the transfer portal. I understand about being loyal to players you recruited but where is the loyalty from the players? Shaq Smith, Chez, Dixon, Jones, Johnson, Cooper, Isreal, Bellamy....... thats a lot of talent that left us.

I'm sure he will find a mail room with same pay for TE after this season and Caldwell retirement party somewhere around the time of the Christmas party.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's not really complicated.

Sep 26, 2021, 6:45 PM

Sit 5 and give someone else a shot. It can't be worse.
