Dabo used the “doubt us” card for years to get us to where we are. Here lately, the motivation behind that narrative no longer exists because this program, fans, national media, etc. has expected Clemson to be top 3 in the nation. Now we can go back to our roots “to prove everybody wrong”. Like it or not, this could be a road back to glory.

No doubt in my mind the Tigers will get better. Saturday night had to be a wake up call for Monsieurs Elliott and Caldwell. If not, they may sleep their way right out of the program.

Like it or not, with no possible top 15 program in the foreseeable future, and sitting at # 6 in the polls, without a couple of losses by any of the top 5 teams before the season ends, that return to glory probably took a detour to next year.
You can win out, even win the ACCCG ,but if Alabama ,Oklahoma, Ohio State and Notre Dame all go undefeated or even if Georgia loses 1 game but knocks off Alabama in the SECCG, there is no way that Clemson climbs back into that coveted 4th spot.
Add to that what happens if a team like Cincinnati goes undefeated, or Florida knocks off Georgia and then loses to Alabama in a close game ,what then.
And I have not even mentioned the PAC -12.
No, IMO, what happened to us Saturday was not the best thing to happen to us. Now if the score had been say 31-28 maybe, but Georgia exposed an offense in need of an identity and scoring 70 points this weekend against S .C. State won't impress anybody on the Playoff committee.

Also since the CFP started in 2014, no team has ever gotten into the playoff after losing their first game of the season. Not to say it’s impossible to do, and Clemson could possibly do it, but it’ll be quite the uphill battle. Offense has to start lighting up the scoreboard and blow out opponents starting week 2

Technically you are correct. However, tOSU lost in week 2 to VT the year the Buckeyes won.
My concern is that I think the PAC gets a team in this year.

I agree with you, but history shows that there will be 1 or at most 2 undefeated teams.

Every year, the pundits talk about scenarios where a one loss conference champion is left out because there are 4 or 5 undefeated teams, and it never comes close to happening.
I don’t know what the CFP committee will prioritize this year, but if we win out we will have won 12 games in a row and have a first game loss to a team that will likely finish in the top 10. We would very likely be in the top 4 in that situation.
With that said, the question will be if we are talented enough and well coached enough to make some noise in the playoffs. Based on what I saw Saturday, the answer is no.

I hope they make it… it will be a shame for this defense if it didn’t get a shot at Alabama or OSU or even GA again.

No, a loss is never good, this one stinks especially after all the hype. When you can only put up 3 points with this much talent…. Houston we have a problem.
11-1 is probably not going to happen this year. Hope I’m dead wrong.

I know we’ll get it figured out, but “us against the world” is great at getting everyone fired up and motivated to work hard and stay focused - but I think unfortunately our problems run deeper than us needing a mission statement and buy in. We need to overhaul a lot of what we are doing on the offensive side of the ball from the top down.

we got 12 more games - and so does every one else - hek I remember 10 game seasons and nobody went undefeated.

If we make it back to the CFP this year, I'll eat my words.
The game exposed our issues on offense, particularly the O-line. Changes are coming. We can't continue the same old stuff. Caldwell will certainly be gone and maybe Elliott.
DJ will be playing under a hot magnifying glass from now on. It will be interesting to see how he responds.
We've got to have more diversity in our receiving corp. Throwing the ball short to Ross is a joke. He doesn't make people miss and his acceleration to top speed isn't all that good. Gotta hit him on the move, preferably down field.
At some point our staff has to learn from other teams. Short, super-explosive receivers like at Alabama must become a part of our mix. They turn quick passes into huge chunk plays. None of our receivers can do that.

I’ve actually thought about this, while I don’t think Dabo would throw a game, I do perhaps see it possible that we could hold back the quarterback i.e. almost no runs and no RPOs, in order to make sure he does not get injured, also understand that our OLine is a work in process and not attempt futile runs. He could have correctly seen Georgia as a “Mulligan” and attempt to beat them with defense and the passing game only. It almost worked, and I firmly believe if we win the rest of the games we will be in the playoff and have a shot at the national title. Regardless if we had beat Georgia or not, if we lose a game OTHER than UGA, we’re out anyway

Yeah but when dabo played that card before, we had the best qb in the country (TL16 and DW4), the best rb, and a better but still average offensive line.
