Coming to Clemson

Sep 11, 2018, 12:48 PM

My family is planning a trip to Clemson vs A&M game next year and would like to know if we should stay in Clemson or Greenville? If Clemson where do you suggest?

This past weekend talk with Tiger fans and had some great visits. Looking forward to 2019.

According to Tnet,

you might be able to rent Scelliot's house since they won't be around much longer.

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

There’s a new hotel on lake Hartwell close to the stadium. I have never stayed but from what I hear it’s nice.

Stay in Greenville. Beautiful city with lots to do. 40 minute drive to Clemson. More hotels so cheaper prices.

Might want to stay in downtown Greenville. They have done a great job in the downtown area with lots of restaurants, etc. It is well worth the extra drive time from Clemson.

Staying in Clemson is crazy expensive for game weekends. We stay in Easly which is 25-30 miles away.

Stay in Downtown Greenville

close to Falls Park. Many brand new hotels are going up or you can't go wrong with a historic old one, either.

Downtown Greenville for sure.

Greenville is a great city, and the downtown area has won many awards. It is very walkable, with a wide range of hotels from upscale to standard. Lots of great restaurants there too. If you stay in downtown Greenville, you will have a nice base to work from with lots to do for the weekend. Clemson will be about a 45 minute drive. Assuming you will arrive in Clemson several hours before kickoff, you will have plenty of time to explore the campus and downtown area. Clemson is much smaller than College Station, and the university is much smaller than A&M, so you wouldn't want or need to spend a whole weekend in Clemson. A few hours before the game will suffice.

I say, STAY IN CLEMSON. Is it more expensive? Yes. Do they jack up the hotel rates? Yes. BUT, if you want to soak in all of Clemson and walk downtown and go to the holes in the wall we call bars, stay in Clemson. If you want to see, smell and feel CLEMSON, stay in Clemson.

If you just want to see the Saturday atmosphere and care less about the night before the game or any of that other hoopla, then yeah, save a buck and stay out of town - just kind of depends on what your priorities are for a trip of this sort. For me, I like to stay "in town" to take in the traditions of the school I'm visiting.

Personal(& monetary) preference, I suppose. Just have to decide what exactly is the purpose of your trip.

where you stay! For College Station, we crammed 6 gals in an airbnb 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment at a cost of only $50 per night for each of us.

it's hard to beat the deals on a hotel in Clemson

Sep 11, 2018, 1:37 PM

I would suggest staying as close to the stadium as possible

Check vrbo and airbnb and rent a lakehouse in Clemson or Seneca!

You can usually find one cheaper than a hotel room and you get a whole house. There is also no sunset like a sunset over Lake Hartwell.

Be sure to book as soon as you know what dates you'll be coming and you'll be able to find something awesome.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To me it depends on several factors, like

Sep 11, 2018, 3:07 PM

How long do you plan to be in town? Will you have a car? Your age? Looking for the college experience or just a good visit? Is price a limiting factor? Etc.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites in College Station to be near the college thing. I had many friends stay in Houston or Austin mostly due to cost. We all had fun but very different experiences. So a recommendation depends on your preferences.

Greenville if your in Friday night, enjoy downtown G-ville.... been staying in Greenville for 8 years on game weekends and it never gets old, lots to do.

Glad to hear your making the trip, let me be the first to welcome you... a "Howdy" back to ya.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Depends on how old you are. 26 or older stay in Greenville.***

sschatz412 is 100% right.
Look for VRBO or AirBnB on lake hartwell or lake keowee.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

serious answer, since some are funnin' with ya...

Sep 11, 2018, 8:29 PM

Stay an exit north or south of Clemson on I-85 and you can have any hotel you want for a reasonable price. Or stay in Anderson and make the short drive in.

Stay in a Greenville hotel if you want a bit more of a drive but WAY more to do before and after the game.

As someone else suggested, get an airbnb on the lake (this would be my choice).

Clemson is fine but there's only so much to do other than the game itself.
