You are a naïve mo fo. Very naïve and probably not too smart. It doesn't matter if you did taxes correct and honestly, they can and will go after you and bankrupt you thru legal fees. Dumba$$ gubment bureaucrats just coming into the office and reading the paper, but more likely "working" from home and not ever working.
What's sad is when your standard of living is half what it is today, your echo chamber will be telling you it is my fault. And you will believe it.

I’ve had several accountants during my career. I assure you they do not understand all of the tax laws because it’s impossible to know all the rules. So, there are plenty of hard working, honest people who have some level of noncompliance without having a clue they are in the noncompliance. I know because I’ve been there. So, get ready middle class. You are honest and think you have no worries. You’re about to find out what 87,000 additional bullies can do.

You’ve been lucky. Good for you. Good people are harassed by the IRS thugs and you haven’t seen anything yet. Wait until 87,000 more hit the middle class.

Those that fraudulently file their taxes? I expect most middle class folks have simple tax returns.
While our taxes are complicated, we are also very conservative with our interpretation of tax laws. Likely leaving money on table but it makes our life easier (and very easy to defend).

I’ll try to be brief. I have what would be considered a moderately difficult tax return , not easy, not as hard as some. I have an accountant and a financial planner to guide me because I can’t possibly know every rule in the massive tax code. I recently was informed that we have not been sending a certain form to the IRS each year along with my return. Now the information they wanted IS reported accurately on my tax return but there’s this remote form I had never heard of that was not being done. So, I have to go back several years paying fines. The letter from the IRS says they will “settle” for several thousand but they threatened to fine me $300,000!!! I’ve now completed their accounting forms and paid the fines. Did I break the law? YES!!!! But my point is I had absolutely no clue and apparently neither did my accountant. The info they wanted was on the tax return!! Not good enough!! I do things the right way. I did not take the payroll protection money when I could have. I do not use Obamacare when I could easily show the income to qualify! I try as best I can to report honestly. But if the IRS wants to find something wrong in a moderately difficult tax return they are going to find it. When 87,000 additional auditors hit the streets there will be plenty of “good people” found in noncompliance when they had no clue. Now the IRS will say it’s our responsibility to know all the rules. I’m sorry but I don’t sit around studying a mountain of tax code laws.

Think we can all agree the tax code needs to be simplified.
Let me know if you need a good accountant in the Columbia-SC area. They’re very reputable in the southeast, and have easy handled any questions when the IRS or state folks start sniffing around.

having to go through the process of an audit. It does seem like this legislation makes those of us further down the totem-pole more likely to have to go through one...
So - it's not really that fascinating.

few quick questions...
Aug 9, 2022, 8:34 AM
|
|
Is this legit? We (taxpayers) are paying $919k per IRS employee? How long until that budget needs to be re-upped? Hope to God it's at least for 15 years.
Also, maybe more importantly, where do they expect to find 87,000 employees right now?

that total is for more than just additional agents/employees.
Please don't interpret these comments as me supporting the bill...I don't. Just sharing what's in there.
