Saw this morning that we beat The Citadel by 11 points.

Looks like we played well in the last few minutes of the first half after being down 26-22 and then getting outscored in the second half. I know you can't tell much from these early contests against overmatched high school teams, but that seems a bit too close for comfort.

The lead was 20 at one point...

The team got a little sloppy and let el Cid cut to lead to a mere 6 points. If you watched the entire game, you saw some good things and some not so good things.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

That sounds exactly like something a basketball cultist

would say.

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

It was the first game of the season

and we won by double digits.

No reason to be concerned.

I was disappointed by our perimeter defense. We have to clean that up.

We created good shots on offense, and I was generally pleased with our shot selection.

We seem more athletic this year. We have good team speed. Lots of hustle as always.

Our game against the Coots this Friday will certainly be a step up in competition.

Bad perimeter defense and shooting is a common problem

for Brownell's teams. Did we get a lot of easy fast break baskets with our length and speed?

Agreed re: perimeter defense, disagree re: shooting. Last year's team was a very good shooting team and this year's likely will too. Tyson, Hemenway, and Galloway won't often go a combined 3/16 from three-point land.

Historically Brownell’s teams are excellent in 3-point defense. The effort seemed to slip 2-3 years ago—a couple guys inexplicably had career nights against us—then last year we were horrible.

El CID starting the season shooting 44% from the arc is the most concerning element of the game to me. This trend needs to stop. Even if 3-point shooting %is on the rise nationally (IDK), 44% is waaaay too high.

Several of those Citadel 3's were deep deep shots, like exhibition 3-point halftime show stuff as they were bringing it down the floor. They had a player down low enough to snag a rebound if off, which some were, but it wasn't a typical 3-point effort that stats will give much insight on.

Ian, chase, and Tyson were on a different level than the citadel. The rest of the guys need to get there. We have a chance to be good if we are running at that level when PJ gets back.
