Clemson Island - I didn't know

May 16, 2018, 12:56 PM

So I was traveling for work this week in Pennsylvania. Driving from Harrisburg airport up to Williamsport, PA. I had the Waze app up directing me when I see Clemson Island in the middle of the Susquehanna River. I know Thomas Green was from PA so I assume this is named after the family but haven't been able to find out. I did find a Wikipedia article that said the island is some sort of prehistoric district.

Anybody ever hear of this or know anything about it?

That purchase price....

Probably almost unheard of back at that time. Kind of mind blowing today....1375 pounds...that's a LOT of gold.

I am sure it was not pounds of gold but gold worth ...English pounds of currency. Probably a big difference.

Fair enough

in the article "bought Amos' share for 1375 pounds in gold coin, or approximately $7000" could be taken in different ways. I took the more literal interpretation of a weight amount of gold coins but your point is fair. Either way - that's a LOT of coins to haul around.

I think they were beet farmers.***
