It was great to finally hear Dabo say Thank You to Tommy Bowden.

IMO our program began its long climb up the mountain when TB was hired. New construction projects were started or in plans for the future. We started to bring in more talented recruits like James Davis, CJ Spiller ( who was bright in under Bowden's time at Clemson in 2006 class.) Gaines Adams, Arron Kelley, Kourtni Brown, Chad Diehl, DeAndre McDaniel, Charlie Whitehurst as well many other talented players under TB.

Tommy Bowden began changing the culture by recruiting talented players with Character. He placed a high priority on graduating his players and building them into good men.

He was smart enough to hire Dabo as the recruiting coordinator and when he stepped down for the good of the program TB recommended Dabo Swinney as The Interim HC giving Dabo an opportunity he has taken advantage of.

Dabo took that solid foundation and began to build a national product. What Dabo brought to the table was new energy, passion, innovation and a confidence that anything was possible if you believe. I give him all the credit for hiring the best coaches. But this was only possible because the administraton recognized we must pay our asst coaches more money to get the best assistants. Something TB continually brought up to Terry Don Philips and the administration. TB also recognized the need for better facilities.

TB was unable to take Clemson to elite status but he made the climb up the mountain possible with the right person leading the program. To many fans remember only the negative moments of TB's tenure at Clemson , but I believe his hiring made possible for Clemson to be where we are today 2016 National Champions. If we had hired some of the names mentioned to replace TB I do not believe we would have been able to plant the Tiger Paw flag at the top of the mountain. I believe we would have built our program becoming a copy of OSU, Bama, FSU maybe having occasional 10 win plus win seasons, but no NC.

I admire TB for stepping down for the good of Clemson and appreciate Dabo for the courage to be a game changer.

I am not taking anything away from Dabo because he is a special coach with his vision he has elevated the program to elite status. Dabo mentioned past players that helped to make this year happen, so let's not for get TB and some of his staff also helped to build the foundation making it possible for Clemson's current success.

"All In" Tiger fan with 2015 daughter who is now a proud Clemson Alum.

You are absolutely 100 per cent on the money and have perfect recollection of the true history behind Dabo's start and Tommy Bowden's significant role in our success. Glad to hear someone speak up and give credit to a man who deserves so much credit for starting the the modern day investment student atheletes of character and graduating them. Thank you Tommy Bowden.

I agree. Tommy knew that with his last name, he could go in to the houses of the 4* and 5* recruits and sell Clemson. West or Hatfield couldn't do that. Tommy deserves credit for helping Clemson get to where they are today. Go Tigers!!!

Actually, Coach Swinney has paid tribute to

Jan 15, 2017, 8:30 AM

Tom Bowden on several occasions for offering him the opportunity to get back into coaching as well as recommending him for HC.....And also to Terry Don for going out on a limb and sticking with him as HC after the South Florida debacle in Charlotte

Coach Swinney seemingly never forgets the road he's travelled to get to the top of the college football world nor the people who've helped him and believed in him on the journey

The story about about being rescued while a 'Bama student by Discover Card is pretty funny

I was at a mid week practice one day in 2003 and some stranger and I were talking and he said "Bowden is on his way out he can't even hire quality assistants just look at this new receivers coach he looks like he is still in high school".Well 13 years later that little old receivers coach brought another National Championship to little old Clemson, and by the way he coached those receivers a heck of a lot better than Cockstill ever could.

Tommy took us as high as he could. But in Dabo he saw

someone who could take us much further. And THAT was Tommy Bowden's greatest success at Clemson. What he left us with.

He didn't step down. He was fired and thank

Jesus Christ he was because the man was collecting a paycheck by that point and had no fire at all. Remember how amazed everyone got because Tommy yelled at a ref for a solid minute? He was fired.
