without the hurry up tempo? Maybe should bring that back.

It seems that we have fewer plays in the playbook now.

So basically we go up to the line of scrimmage, and don't huddle, but we stand there looking over to the sideline to get the play called in, and then snap the ball with under 10 seconds left on the play clock (and many times, it's under 5 seconds).

It is obvious many times which play we are going to run, and we are now giving the defense time to setup for what's coming.

I don't understand why we don't go up tempo anymore. I also don't understand why we don't use any motion or misdirection or any wrinkles to try to throw off the defense.

I'm not an offensive coordinator, so I'm hoping that there are good reasons for these things that I don't know enough to understand.

the play after the defense gets set so that we can "take what the defense gives us" instead of dictating tempo.

Not to mention our OL hustles to the line and then has to stay squatting completely still for 30 seconds with zero rhythm.

Reminds me of Rob Spence.

I think you're exactly right about the "taking what the defense gives you". I've heard this line a lot in the last several years even as Dabo and Elliot have discussed game plans after playing mismatched teams that we blew out.

We've lost any aspect of dictating tempo or our strategy of play to the other team. Yes, if the defense if constantly lined up one way either to solely stop the run or solely pass protect you want to be able to go the other way and make them play. But, at some point, especially with our talent level on offense, we should be dictating the game and not relying on what the defense gives us. If we are as good as we think then dominate and run our game plan and don't manage as much to what the defense is "giving you".

Does anyone honestly think if a team was playing 2 safeties high and a dime package look that Bama would only run and dink and dunk down field all game? Bama would still throw deep and go with their game plan because they know they have the best players, the best scheme, the best play callers and they are going to force you to stop them.

And without a mobile QB. A mobile QB is needed for our offense. If we had a DJ in 2015-2016 we wouldn’t have made the playoffs and we would have gotten blown out by Bama. Bamas D in 2015-16 was every bit as good as UGA this year. I remember it was a blood bath of a game. But A. Our Oline was serviceable and B. Watson could make Bama pay for being over aggressive. DJ May turn out to have the best arm we have had but he’s not Mobile enough for the OL we have.
