level of competition - I hope that's true. I think we'll be more motivated and focused against the better teams. I don't think we've seen the best play out of our team yet.

It's nice to not play very well and win the first 2 games by a combined score of 76 to 22. There is nothing wrong with being upset with their play and being constructive in your criticism but it's another to lose your mind and pull your hair out after 2 games. Not saying anyone in this thread has done that but we've seen it. The main problem with this team has been QB play. The other stuff Clemson has the means and talent to fix. I will say though I am very encouraged by DJ. DJ doesn't turn his play around last year the way he did against GT game 1 and what he did the first 6 or 7 drives against Furman was outstanding. He made throws that only confident QB's make and allowed his receivers to make play. The receivers need to step up but I am less worried about the receivers than I was QB but DJ has tampered a lot of my trepidation to this point. His next step is putting a whole game together. DJ was thinking too much and to worried about making mistakes. Playing the QB position requires a measured amount of reckless abandonment and sometimes allowing the receivers to do their jobs and make a play. Some of those throws to Beaux Collins and Davis Allen has shown his willingness to trust his eyes, arm and receiver while also throwing perfect passes into tight windows where only his guy can make the play. Something he definitely didn't do last year. So yes plenty to criticize but also a lot to like especially with DJ.

Beat each by double digits. You don't seem to understand Dabo and his philosophy. Or maybe you disagree with his philosophy. If so, find another team to root for.

So is Dabo’s philosophy to have offensive linemen who don’t block?

And is his philosophy to have defensive players not cover screen passes?
And to have receivers that don’t create separation?
For someone who has no problem talking to the media, I seem to have missed his comments about those aspects of his philosophy.

People forget our 2016 near loss to Troy.

We didn't dominate inferior opponents like we'd all like to see.
But our offense is at least putting up respectable numbers this year as opposed to last year.
The defensive yardage allowed is up so far this year but scoring is still down. We simply need to adjust for the screens and improve our first contact tackling.
Also, our schedule has been weird so far with a Monday night game followed by a short week.
Not making excuses but wanted to point out that our 2016 campaign similarly started out a bit slow.

You can only win a game once and we won both games.

Worse? Furman would probably beat many of the crappy ACC teams with the exception of a couple.

Me too. Furman played well and will do well in their conference, but are not beating ACC teams. If they did it would be a big upset.

I think this past Saturday might have had a little more to do with the short week and the Ella turn for the worse Friday night. I can’t imagine that didn’t affect a lot of the team and have their minds elsewhere.

We'd all like to see us dominate on both sides of the ball, and we certainly have quite a few things to improve upon if we want to have the type of season we'd all like to see us have. However, I'm confident in the defense until I see them struggle in a big game against a quality opponent. The defense has earned the benefit of doubt from me, and I'm not going to get concerned over their performance on a short week against a team they probably weren't very motivated to play against.
The offense has a lot to improve on, but they do at least look better than they did this time last season and perhaps better than any other point from last year. You can at least have hope that our younger receivers will improve as the season moves along as well as our OL. Even last year I thought the OL was playing much better late in the season. I guess the concern is our schedule kicks up a notch in just 2 weeks so hopefully we start to see those improvements rather soon.

Who is our vocal leader on the defense ?Simpson ? Bressee ? Makuba ? I want to see some growling tigers foaming at the mouth after a couple of those screens I wanna see a leader step in and scold players and let it be known that's got to stop. That's where we miss a Skalski a Boulware or a Nolan Turner. Maybe none have assumed that role yet but you need a general out there making sure everybody is on the same page. Maybe there is one and I just haven't noticed ?
