It is so sad to be an avid sports fan

Jul 17, 2022, 2:28 PM

As I am and as most of you are, and see what money is doing to the sports world. I just saw where an MLB player turned down a 440 million dollar contract. Is it greed or total stupidity?! Now this kind of greed is entering the college sports world. I remember when MLB was the most entertaining sports imaginable and now you don’t even recognize the players by name. The good ole days have surely passed me by .. and I miss them!

It is most certainly not sad to be an avid sports fan at all. We have more access to watch literally any game, match, race..whatever we want. We have more access to know what is happening with our favorite teams. Juan Soto wants to go to free agency because he wants to go on the open market to most likely take a shorter term contract for a higher AAV as well as not wanting to tie himself to Washington who (outside of hitting the absolute lottery in nailing back-to-back 1-1 picks in Stras and Harper) have not been a good franchise.

The fact that half a billion dollar contracts exist at all

Is a turnoff. How do these teams make enough money to pay that to one guy? Thats more money than any normal human could spend in several lifetimes.

To be fair the Nationals wanted to lock a 23 year old up for 15 years. It’s not the money he’s turning down but the organization he came up with and the fact his entire career would be spent with a mediocre organization. He will make more than $440M over the next 15 years in the open market.

The networks need to consider the number of people that will be ticked off and not just those that will profit. This little guy will wage financial warfare to his fullest if Clemson isn't in the money.

sports' geek, typically preferring to watch Clemson football games, perhaps only a few others during the season.

Beyond that, there has been little else that interests me, as I prefer to be outdoors in the yard or on the water. What little TV I watch is oriented more toward historical or biographical shows with an occasional scientific genre tossed in the mix. Sometimes, I may go two or three days without cutting on a TV,

The entire sports' saga, as relates to money, paired with the prima donnas rampant is disgraceful at best, despicable at worst, and now we are content and allow the afflictions to drift downwards into our high schools, Hence, therein lies the major rub causing my repulsion toward this Transfer Portal and NIL load of horsemanure.

Now, of all things everyone is in a tizzy over conference realignment and affiliation, which makes me think maybe the Ivies had it right all along, regarding bowl games and titles.

Money....money.,..money. The root of all evil. I've heard that old adage all my life, and am now, a witness to its veracity.

I’m with you Hartins it is a rare occasion when I sit down to watch tv. Obviously I watch all the tv coverages of Tiger sports, if I’m not there in person, but I just can’t make myself sit down for hours and watch Yellowstone or anything similar to that. I really enjoy the scientific and history shows. Mysteries of the Museum is right up my alley. Did you watch the show last night about the new telescope that is being launched soon? The knowledge in this great country is amazing. Makes me wonder why the good ole US of A depends on a Biden OR a Trump to be the leader when so many intelligent people exists. Politics solves nothing and science keeps the world going!

Soto is going to get that money anyway. He probably just wants to pick his destination. The Nationals are awful. I dont care how much they make in the pros. It hasnt ruined it a bit. Now college worries me some.

and it's worldwide. Money long ago ruined soccer.

The best teams in Europe's biggest leagues don't care about winning titles. They care about being in the top group that gets to play in the Champions League the next season. If they win the title great, but the main thing is getting in the top 4, 3, 2 or whatever number of slots their league gets allocated for the CL.
