And that's against Tech schools and an FCS program. I'd go after our passing defense too. We've had some guys in the secondary miss time, but we definitely have a lot of unanswered questions in that area. Coach Conn and Reed will definitely be tested the rest of the year.

Neither coach Conn nor Coach Reed will see the field this year. You cannot take anything away from the ranking except we missed 5 starters on defense last week which did not help.

What about the first two weeks?

We are giving up 244.7 yards through the air so far this year.
164 against Georgia Tech
259 against Furman
311 against Louisiana Tech
If you throw out last week, we are giving up an average of 211.5 passing yards per game. That would put us 63rd nationally.
Still not exactly impressive.

Obviously if this continues throughout the season it'll be a concern, but it's much too early in the season to put much weight into stats. We didn't give up many passing yards in week 1, and then we only 4 days to get ready for Furman, and then had a ton of guys out against LT. We'll quickly find out over the next few weeks what our defense is made of.

"We had a short turnaround one week."
I'm not singling you out. I'm referring to posts I've seen here from lots of different people.
We all want to think that there are the best defense in the country and have the best players in the country and the best coaches in the country, and if the numbers don't bear that out there are good reasons for it.
So far, it's been disappointing.

If we used the same critique with other sports we’d be accused of not looking at history or putting enough money towards it.
Dabo has become a very wise coach, those first 3 games were about developing young players, getting DJ confidence and not showing our game plan for conferences play.
The next 3 weeks will tell us how the 1st year secondary and first year starters are doing after the exhibition season.

As Coach Conn said in his presser we pretty much play a zone coverage (ie. Quarters coverage/ Cover 4/ Press bail are all the same thing) most of the game. Ideally you'd like to be able to evenly mix up Man and Zone coverages. If you can't, teams have an easier time game planning you and coming up with answers. However, we don't really have the type of personnel at corner to play a lot of man. Really Nate is the only Corner on the roster with the speed, skills and college experience equipped to play man on a consistent basis.

We’ll go to more man coverage as these guys mature in their roles. Our secondary gets to the ball quickly because we have lots of speed.
This secondary will get better every game with our safeties being as dominant as we’ve ever been by season end.
Hopefully we play complementary football this week!

When you lead every game from start to finish the other team is going to throw more. I’m not saying the secondary has performed well, just trying to provide some context to the facts

We have yet to see Clemsons DL at full strength. Alot of this will be alleviated when the DL has Breese, Davis, and XT back.
