Gamecock new facility is bland and cheap looking

Feb 5, 2019, 8:27 PM

No personality to it whatsoever. Cheap looking furniture. Looks unfinished to me

Looks like a No Fun Zone.

Without a doubt those drab team colors do nothing for them in that particular environment.

“09”
We are biased!! Tiger fans have something to compare when merely examining your new “chicken coop” side by side with other football facilities. Your new building is a credit to under achieving and inside your trophy case (empty) reveals how the remainder of the building is.

Cute “ra ra” slogans scattered throughout show the brilliance of your HC Muscrap! Poor Ray Tanner must scratch his head every time he enters the building asking himself, “Why did I hire this idiot?”

Have a nice day!

Go Tigers!

I like the music studio idea. A lot of those 3 star kids will realize that football is not their thing and get to pursue music instead.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They will get a couple of recruits per year

Feb 5, 2019, 10:16 PM

on the music studio alone. Other than that, the facility did look bare. And too much natural light in some places, especially in the weight room. Too much glare and uneven light for the eyes when lifting heavy weights. IMHO

I haven't seen the inside, but the outside and the landscaping around it is quite attractive and impressive. I was terribly disappointed when I saw it as I wanted it to suck big time!

Re: Gamecock new facility is bland and cheap looking

Feb 6, 2019, 9:11 AM

Having studied all the photos I believe UofSC tried, but failed, to build a facility comparable to others in the region from Bama to Clemson. There are some quite nice interior elements equal to those opposing facilities and the exterior is imposing, however two circumstances stood out.

First - Unless Clemson’s famous Dabo slogans which have relevance from our accomplishments as a program, Muscrap’s use of promo slogans and “fight like a Gamecock” ring hollow. The program simply doesn’t measure up no matter how many fierce sounding slogan you scatter on walls.

Second - Using other SEC former players from Florida where Muscrap got fired, as well as Super bowl participants is at best pushing an agenda, but it means the program obviously has little to no major accomplishments over 120 years plus! A replica Heisman trophy, a 1969 ACC piece and an SEC division championship isn’t going to WOW a recruit today. Holtz and Spurrier are “ancient” legends in current eighteen year olds view of college football. Usuck is known as “the graveyard” for coaches and the slogan is well deserved!

UofSC has virtually no identity, especially in traditions and 2001 as a theme song is now dated almost two decades later. Dabo’s famous rant nailed how the rest of America views the university outside of South Carolina and other than academic programs in Law and International Business they are seen as a “middle of the road” athletics program other than Women’s basketball and past baseball achievements.

A building may initially help persuade recruits, but records of SEC championships and bowl wins will be the only means of adding something worthwhile to the structure. Losing to UVA. didn’t help matters to say the least!

Go Tigers ??!!

Yes! My (biases) take away was that they hired a marketing

Feb 6, 2019, 12:13 PM

firm to assist with the feel and that marketing firm puked a bunch of insincere phrases everywhere that look great on mock-ups but ring hollow if the culture doesn’t support it (and all indications are that it doesn’t). Plus...wow...having that many inspiring phrases and lists up on the walls almost screams of desperation, like the kid writing as many words as he can think of about the Revolutionary War on his history test before the teacher says “Pencils Down!”

Looks like an industrial Euro trash modern art facility...

Feb 5, 2019, 9:01 PM

From the pictures they have posted on FGF, the thing just looks "cold" and corporate - has no family vibe at all. Part of that is the dark/drab color scheme of the joint - dull grey metal, black with lots of dull garnet.

I will give USuC a little credit; for a school that has been a perpetual dumpster fire of a program, they managed to scrape up some $$ for a new facility - too bad it has the warmth and feel of a commercial freezer.

Looks kinda okay. Sterile environment similar to the headquarters for an Insurance company etc.

Where did they display their singular "Trophy" case? *Clemson has a TROPHIES case...Big difference.

How do the kids get there? It's not on campus.

Overall pretty nice for the Coots at least.

Love some of their pathetic slogan attempts..."Every Down Dude". reminds me of a cheesy sequel movie:
Will and Jakes Excellent Adventure.

Lastly the pic of their strength coach gives me the creeps.
