Truck Question

May 3, 2021, 8:49 PM

I haven’t been really paying attention to trucks lately, but now I am and I know one of you geniuses will know the answer.

What the heck is up with this 2.7L 4 cylinder engine in the GMC Sierra. They even have it as an option for the AT4 package. Is there some technology there that boosts its HP and doesn’t make it feel like a 4 cylinder? I am really confused on that one.

2020 GMC Sierra Elevation package. 2.4L V4 and they say 310hp. I just watched a video about them on YouTube and it said 6500 lbs towing too.

Yes. Not sure tho what that exactly means in that large of a vehicle.

Probably good for dump runs and getting mulch.

I have to think it would get wheezy towing anything.

I’m really wary of modern turbo direct injection motors. By their nature their valves get so carbon-ed up that it runs worse and worse until you drop $500-750 every 30k miles for valve cleaning.

I mean, that's really not that much money as a PM measure

May 3, 2021, 11:29 PM

is it? Kind of like replacing the rack and pinion every 80,000 miles for $1,300?

MauldinT, where are you???

Doesn’t have to be that way though.

Ford and Toyota/lexus (that I know of) added port injection back to their DI engines, just so the backside of the valves get a constant cleaning from the gasoline. Alleviates the carbon buildup altogether.

I see that all the technology came from the 6.2L V8.

I still do not think I would go that route. I find it interesting that a sales guy would even mention you could get it in a AT4 package. Just weird.

plenty of power but when i was pulling any significant weight the turbos would kick on and it would sound like the engine was going to explode through the hood.

My BIL has a Super Duty Diesel

amd he actually uses it for work. I was with him as he was pulling a front end loader and I thought the same. That truck for 100 miles made me feel like a bomb was ticking under the hood. I am also not used to it, so I have no idea but not my thing.
