Is this Clemson team the best you've seen

In your time of watching Clemson football? Obviously records show it may be but i feel like we had really good teams in the past but couldn't put it all together for whatever reason. In my years of watching football, overall this is the best Clemson team ive ever seen. What say you?

I was born in 1989, so as far as my memories go, yes. I felt like 2011 was smoke and mirrors, and finally it crashed down on us.
I would've said last year's team, but our coaches were too stubborn early in the year to put DW under center.

The 81 team was a little better on D and much better on special teams.
It was different times but this years team could overall be better.
If we win it all this season I will give the nod to the 2015 team.

Yes, I have been following since '92 and this is far and away the most complete team top to bottom. Scary thing is how high the being is. The online and qb play really separates us from teams past.

I say the 81 team would beat this years team. 81 D was a little better and the O line on that team would be the difference in my opinion. The 2015 O line would struggle to block the d line back in 81.

Not to take anything away from that 81 team, but you cannot compare era's. The game has changed, and the athletes today are WAAAAAY better today then in 1981. I doubt the 81 team would be competitive at all in today's game, but neither would any powerhouse of the early 80's.
To compare, the biggest OL we had in 81 was 265 pounds (James Robinson). Today, we have one OL that is lighter than that, and every single OL other than that, is at least 20 pounds bigger. Crowder at 323 is almost 60 pounds bigger. Our DE's average more than any of the OL of the 81 team and run like lightning.
It just is not a comparison to be honest.
Again, not to take anything away from the 81 team, but a more fair question is how much better is this team over the rest of the field compared to how much better was the 81 team over the rest of the field?

You can't really compare todays team to a team 30yrs ago. There is so much more to the game now than back then. No disrespect to the 81 team but i think this year's team could beat them and honestly, it probably wouldn't be that close. Imo, the 2012 team was the 2nd best team we had. That offense with Watkins, Ellington, Nuk and Boyd were just as good as the offense we have now. The only big difference between the 2012 and 2015 teams is much better play at oline no and defense is wayyyy better. We could of beat anyone that year if we had 2014 or this year's defense

I'm 46 , and it seems like this team is the best potentially , but I wonder how it stacks up against the 81' National Championship team ...or the 1989 team that I thought was the best defensive team ever assembled at Clemson.

I might be the oldest guy on this bored and have been following the Tigers since my freshman year in 1956... still have my ticket stubs to the '56 Clemson - USC game! Even though it is a different day, I believe this is the best team Clemson has ever produceed!

Honestly, we've won every game with flaws. We are far from perfect which is just all the more reassuring because we haven't even played our best ball yet!

I have to say yes for the one reason that this team strikes so fast ,.,
When you can score this Quick you are Never out of it .,
This defense can send them backwards when they want to .,

Best offense? I believe yes. I think I have to give the best defense to the 89-90 team. The Spiller Era was the best special teams. However, collectively? This team just might be.

I agree with a previous poster. I think last year's team was better if DW4had been in instead of CS. Of course, when he was hurt we were pretty screwed.

basketball with football players back then in Fike. They were awesome atheletes. Many of the best in college football. I think on defense, 13 players made it in the NFL and I mean made it pretty big. Kinard, Davis,Bryant,Perry,Headen,Rembert,McSwain,Benish,Devane,etc. They were studs!!
But, having said that,they could not handle this team.

National Championship team is the best I have ever seen. I was 10 years old at the time and went to 8 games that season with my Dad. This team could be the best, but have to wait until season is over to make that call. Ready for tomorrow...Go Tigers!

I agree that is impossible to compare teams of different era especially since the 81 team would have never seen the up temp no hudde and all the formations. Some of those formation may have been illegal in 1981 as both NCAA and the NFL have changed the rules to allow more scoring.
I would say I feel like the 1981 team played better on a weekly basis especially on Defense. However, I feel like this team has not even hit their potential. We run up around 300 yards on WF in the 2nd half and only score a FG? If this team hits on all cylinders like it did against Miami then it would beat any team.
I don''t know how much this matters in a hypothetical match-up but I feel that this team depends so much on DW that if he gets hurt then we are not even close to the same team.

In the 80's, particularly the late 80's, we played a very tight, grind it out and use up clock offense, and a cast iron defense. My friends and I used to joke that Ford's ideal game would be 28-0; one 12- minute drive for us each quarter leading to a touchdown, and one three and out for the other team each quarter.
This team however is so quick-strike it completely changes the dynamic of the game, and when the defense holds early can put the opposing team in desperation mode by the end of the first quarter if they are down by 2-3 scores.
Not sure if the team is better than 81 or late 70's (it definitely it isn't on special teams), but the games sure are a lot more relaxing to watch when the other team is out of it by halftime and playing catch-up the rest of the game. When you play for a low low scoring game, ANY mistake can put the other team back into it at any time.

There is 700 other teams probably thought all Clemson teams were pretty good .
This team is pretty well balanced with good athletes and coaching . DW4 may push us over the top , but we have had greater depth in the 80's when rosters were larger.

Yes, in my lifetime, there were some good teams but this one is the best group overall. We have always had great talent in a couple positions but this year is all over field. But imo the Clemson Tigers are ALWAYS the best team on the field
