Eventually, there will be a move to pre-engineered, manufactured housing in this country, China and Mexico are already doing this. They are building entire highrises in China with stackable modules that only require finishing work, they just have to fit on a flat bed.

Too bad the bank and the insurance company still view modular housing the same as a trailer; even though most of the construction is better than site-built.
The real future is https://www.iconbuild.com/ICON develops advanced construction technologies that advance humanity by using 3D printing robotics, software and advanced materials.

you have no idea what you are talking about, as usual, it is our regulatory agencies holding this back right now, not insurance companies. And the reason insurance companies treat detached trailers differently is that a hurricane or Tornado can pick it up and toss it through your neighbor's house, this would not be a problem with MODULAR prefab housing that would have to meet existing codes.. Trailers get around the standard building code because they are considered temporary structures, it is a bit of a misnomer, but necessary for low-income peeps.

3d printing will meet the demands for low-income housing in this county. it still requires a tremendous amount of nonautomated on-site work. You will also see it in areas where hurricanes and tornadoes are prevalent because the dome is the perfect solution for increasing wind velocities, and lends itself well to 3d printing.

There already is, sorta. There's this entire tiny-house movement that's based entirely around Home Depot Tuff Sheds, those being just about the only thing you can get delivered and installed right at the site. There's modular places scattered here and there too but they haven't gotten the traction they should...but you can already get those Tuff Sheds anywhere.

Shipping containers are big down here, you can get a 40x8.5 delivered from the port of Miami for about 4k. That is 340 sqf of pre assembled structural steel framing. They will even cut the window openings and put in the additional bracing when necessary, per your design. However people are having a heck of a time getting the counties to sign off on them, I know the powers that be do not want to see these things "littering" Martin County.

increased to the point that we need this level of illegal immigration to offset it?
We were running along pretty nicely if I recall prior to Covid.
I agree with your high level sentiment but haven't dug into the numbers around your specific scenario.
Here's some interesting charts on inflation that I wanted to share earlier this week and got tied up w/ work...check out retail sales versus their trend line over the last 10 years...
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/RSXFSAdvance Retail Sales: Retail Trade Graph and download economic data for Advance Retail Sales: Retail Trade (RSXFS) from Jan 1992 to Oct 2021 about retail trade, retail, sales, services, and USA.
If you use retail sales as a proxy for aggregate demand, we are well ahead of pre-Covid projections. Like 5 years ahead.
If these numbers revert back to the mean - kind of regression analysis 101 - we in for some hurt.
JPow has finally given hawkish rhetoric, admitting as such the "transitory" narrative is out the window...like many of us have been saying for some time now. The Fed need to tighten monetary policy, and when that happens, buckle up.
