Nebraska wasn’t. They may not fall to Nebraska’s depths, but they drop will be at least as painful. Going from a perennial 10+ game winner and a factor in the CFP to a 8-9 win team who has a shot at a division championship every other year (and a conference champ 1 out of 4-5 years) will hurt.

They can be if Bama moves to the East

Texas remains a dumpster fire, and LSU screws the pooch on their hire.
That leaves aTm, Arkansas, and the two Miss schools as the main competition.
The East will be a bear. Question is will the SEC want Bama and Jawja in the same division? If they stick with an East/West set up, I don't see how they avoid it.
West: OU, Texas, Arky, Misery, aTm, LSU, Ole Mi$$, Miss St
East: Bammer, Jawja, Awbarn, UF, UT, Ky, Vandy and the coots
West is just the old Southwest Conference +3
