Is North Carolina any good?

Sep 1, 2019, 7:52 AM

As I am enjoying reading through the FGF posts about how their program is ruined, Muschamp should be fired, Bentley is crap, etc.(which is all justified), I am wondering - Is North Carolina good? Their lines looked big and and in shape yesterday, the backs ran with intensity, and their QB looks really good. I know U of SC stinks, but they got beat even though UNC's offensive play calling was way conservative on several occasions. Can UNC win the Coastal?

UNC is not good. Gamecocks are just bad.

They have some good players and coaches but are an average team at best. Will improve as the year goes on but yesterday they were not a very good team. Like Coach Mac said. A lot of mistakes by the players and coaches.

If you watched the game, it's pretty clear that UNCheat just is not all that good. How a team can lose to them is hard to understand.

That said - Miami might suck more than anyone thought possible, so UNC might beat Miami next game. I don't see UNC winning a lot of games though.

If they can beat Miami this week they would have a shot at winning the coastal. Their problem will be UVA.

UNCheat will lose to App St., Clemson, Virginia, and probably the wuffies.

That’s at least 3 ACC losses.

And Virginia might lose one game in the Coastal.

So no. No chance of winning the Coastal.

BUT! I think 7-5 is possible which is crazy to say. And old fart Mack Brown would be ACC Coach of the Year if so. Bronco would deserve it, but Towed-Car Swoffy would have none of that.

Yuck.

+1 for Towed-Car Swoffy

To be honest, this UNC team doesn't look better than the 11-1 team we played a few years back and this South Carolina team is better than the team that beat them game 1. Yeah the QB looks good when he has no pressure, but when they got near him he had some panic in him. When we go to them we could very well beat them the same way we beat GT.

I am going on record and saying that I think they're pretty #### good and can win the Coastal.

When Mack Brown was hired, ESPN's David Hale wrote an article detailing how Mack didn't inherit a trainwreck. His reasoning was simple, UNC had a top 30 roster based on recruiting rankings, but was one of the most injured teams in 2017 and 2018, and even with a depleted depth chart, lost more games last season in the 4th Q than any other. He felt that if they could bring in a strength staff that would keep them healthy and they could find a QB, they had the talent to be good and you saw that last night. They had to learn to finish games and yesterday they did. They have a huge line. Their 2 tackles are 6'7 a piece, their guards are 6'8 and 6'5 respectively, and they dominated. Their starting DL yesterday, both of whom were injured all of last season and didn't play, they dominated. From reading their boards, they have 2 starting LB's and a starting DB they'll get back this week, who were serving suspensions. They have a stable of RB's who could play anywhere, a very talented but young QB, and decent receivers. They have no depth but if they can stay healthy, they'll be a 7-8 win team.

better than i thought, but still not that good

too young and too little depth to make any noise in the league this year

they lost several games in the 4th quarter last year... but yesterday they dominated the 4th.. might be a glimmer of hope for them

now, if the freshman QB improves a lot

and they avoid all the penalties and mental-mistakes that have plagued them the last few years...they might win 5 or 6 games

but i'm guessing this is a 3- or 4-win season
