The unknown factor in the coaching carousel.

How will/have the attitudes of the coaches changed due to NIL and Transfer Portal?

Some coaches probably don't even know. They are probably still trying to process and sort out how those things are affecting their jobs. How do you recruit? How do you handle players? How do you deal with NIL? How do you keep a freshman happy while you develop him so that he doesn't transfer?

Some are probably asking, "Is it worth it?"

In order to be a coach at the highest level you have to have a driving compassion for the job. You have to love recruiting. You have to love spending 80 hours a week in the office.

I think it may drive some coaches from the NCAA to the NFL. ("I'd rather be an assistant at the NFL than a HC at a top 50 (not top 10) NCAA school. I wanna coach. I don't want to deal with talking to an 18 year old kid and trying to tell him and his daddy how much money they can make playing for me. I don't want the hassle of convincing a redshirt freshman that he shouldn't transfer because in two years he'll be a starter."

I think it may drive some coaches out of the profession altogether.

I think it may drive some coaches away from taking jobs. "I'd rather be the OC at Clemson than the HC at TCU. The NIL and portal are gonna make it impossible to compete for championships at TCU.")

I have no idea which coaches are thinking what. But, I think some coaches are re-evaluating their career paths.

take the job, and then you can get paid even more if you suck enough that they fire you before your contract is up, why not take it? It's a win-win.

As the great Steve Miller once said, "Go on, take the money and run."

Is dealing with an 18 year old kid and his daddy...

really that much different than dealing with a temperamental multi-millionaire in the NFL with an over-inflated ego and view of their own talent or importance, his daddy, and his agent?

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.
