IPTAY giving level and lower deck tickets

Jan 21, 2017, 5:39 PM

New alumni in May and joining the IPTAY "Young Alumni" program. I've already donated at the Tiger level ($1600) but was told that getting lower deck tickets might be impossible at that level. Upper deck would be more possible. Now with us national champions I'm wondering if I need to go up a level to even get upper deck tickets?

What are your thoughts? It's getting a little crazy...

First, congrats on being able to afford that level after just graduating. It was years and years before I could afford that. I seriously doubt that you'll get lower level seats at that level and you may not be able to get them even if you go up a level because you don't have the giving history. I'd call IPTAY and ask them what your options are. They're in the best position to advise you.

Last year 2400 was minimum for lower level bc I added a few seats...

Make sure you're taking advantage of the 1/2 price for recent alums. Ie, give 800 but get benefits of 1600. That program helps new alums get in and hopefully give for another 50 years

To your point. After winning it all, getting in lower bowl may not be possible with everyone renewing. And not 100% clear on the rules for young members but one of my employees did it last year. Def worth checking out in full

I donated $2,500 and still was in upper deck.

There are a finite number of lower level seats. I would expect a very high renewal rate this year and you will be very low on the priority list due to your limited length of time of contributing. My only advice is:
Give what you can.
Take advantage of the young alumni bump.
Give every year.
Hope to get upgraded eventually.
And understand those "old people" down low, have given a lot to sit where they do...

It's a points based system

Jan 21, 2017, 6:14 PM

IPTAY uses a points based system for ticket priority.

Years Donating + Lifetime Contributions / 250 + Annual Giving Level Points = IPTAY Priority Points

Annual Giving Level Points:
Paw $60 = 1 point
Purple $160 = 3 points
Orange $400 = 5 points
Champion $800 = 7 points
Tiger $1,600 = 10 points
Howard $2,400 = 15 points
IPTAY $3,200 = 20 points
Jervey $4,600 = 30 points
McFadden $6,000 = 40 points
Fike $7,500 = 50 points
Heisman $10,500 = 100 points
Riggs $25,000 = 250 points

It takes a rather large donation to overcome the points of someone who's been giving for 20-30 years.

it goes by giving level first, then points within that level

Jan 21, 2017, 7:11 PM

So if you just joined, but at the McFadden level say, you would have available seats assigned to you before a long-time Jervey donor, no matter how many points they had.

Thanks. That was never clear to me in spite of everything they've sent to me.

Are you sure? I thought that was for parking assignments.

Always thought seats were priority points first.

I was in a similar situation last year and called IPTAY and was told that I would likely have to contribute at the $8k or $10k levels (I forget the names) to get lowers.

You'll definitely get tickets. For lower it might hinge on

Jan 21, 2017, 8:39 PM

how many you want...if it's only 2 that you need then you stand a chance.

It would be worth your while to call the IPTAY office.

Re: You'll definitely get tickets. For lower it might hinge on

Jan 21, 2017, 8:56 PM

Calling IPTAY is pointless. Never a straight answer and just see how it goes but give more is the general commentary. With good renewal rates I get it, but not sure why they have so many people timber honest. My dedicated rep, well, lacks dedication. Getting them on the phone is a serious challenges. Always in office on another call. My wife and I tried to give a sizeable donation last year, called, left a message for 3 different people and never, never got a call back. So we donate what we do which is good level but sort of felt annoyed

Ie. Yes, I'm calling you out Kyle Shields... what do you actually do? Not a single returned phone call..... ever

Congratulations on graduating. I have never given to IPTAY. I moved to Tampa not long after graduating in 2002. I live too far away for season tickets and just scalp for any game that I want. I am NOT one of those people who begs for "face value" tickets though. The point of my post is move far away and you don't have to spend $10,000 for lowers.

Go Tigers

Realistically bro, you'd have to donate at McFadden level ($6000) or above to even dream of getting in the lower bowl in the first 3 years after the success we've been having...

Well that's twice what the OP donated firstly and secondly, I'd say your friend got a sweet dose of good luck with that deal. I know people that have been donating for half a decade that are still watching with binoculars from the clouds.

This is the source of my frustration with iptay

Jan 21, 2017, 10:57 PM [ in reply to Re: IPTAY giving level and lower deck tickets ]

I increased to that level last year, after years of giving at champion and then tiger, requested 2 lowers (if available) as I always do, but got the same two upper deck seats that Ive had for 10 or so years.

Doesn't seem like that should be possible given the fact that you claim your BIL gave for the first time last year. :-/

Oh well...we're still the National Champions no matter where I sit, so i wont complain...this year. Haha.
